      Agonizing night... literally.

I tried to go to bed early, because the thought of waking up 5 am doesn't quite please me..8 30 to be exact......
I cleansed my mind of the bogus of the day.... and do my usual things visualize mantra.... and then I lay down... mantra some more... and visualize some more, and of course every now and then I go to the bathroom, but I also do the above mentioned when I do that, and not think of anything except lucid dreaming.

What I did was kept chanting my mantra, switching between 2
      When I dream, I'll realize,RC become LUCID
I'll have a lucid dream tonight
I stick with the latter because the former was long and quite perplexing for me to say such a long thing.

I kept it up all night... till like 10... I don't know if it's me just doing mantras and can't fall asleep or my body's not accustomed to going to bed early, I try laying still, even switching position.
But I didn't sleep till 9 almost to 10 or just 10 pm

And then I woke up at 3, finishing a superb dream, 2:58 to be exact, then my alarmed rang a few sec alter when I woke up. Recalled the dream, wrote it down. my first long+epic dream before waking up in the night

3.... I did WBTB, same procedure as before I go to sleep, and then did mantras visualization and stuck with mantra for the rest of the night without stopping.... this didnt let me go to proper sleep. it would woke up and realize that I dont remember what I did 10 secs before... and I had like 7 dreams total in the night, fragments here and there, some i would remember, some I wouldnt, but in the end I recalled them all when I woke up
But I didn't get my due of sleep till 5 am.... so yes I was awake more or less for 2 dang hours.... the window was closed and it was hot.... I opened it... then as Usual I went to the bathroom a couple of times...
Though I didn't have a single LD.... course I got my 2nd epic dream. They were really nice, but I'd prefer a Lucid one.

So just sharing my night and a question, is what's keeping me awake me chanting mantras? and how would I fix this and get an LD.

If you think about LDing too much it might keep you awake. Just relax, and try doing a few reality checks during the day. They key is patience; I haven't had an LD yet but I'm not giving up!

I agree with Taromon, if you think too much about it, you’ll ruin any chances you might have.

Now that I know what a lucid dream is I can share what started my lucid dreams. When I was younger, I had horrible nightmares. When I was about 14 I had had enough. I started thinking “they’re not real” or “they’re just dreams” over and over again in my mind whenever I had free time (IE when I didn’t have to think, like in class lol) If I tried it just at night, I’d be awake half the night.

In my experience, dreams take things from all day and previous days, not just a few minutes before sleep, so if you do your mantra throughout the day instead of just right before bed, maybe it’ll help. However, don’t force yourself to think it; just let it flow through your mind until it becomes "stuck" like a broken record.

I know that after I started doing my “mantra” I stopped having “nightmares” and most of my dreams were lucid (with me in control most of the time) even after I stopped chanting mentally.

      Good luck
