      Fever Dreams?

I haven't had a fever in years but I'm getting over the flu and yesterday my fever was up to 101 degrees. I slept on and off all day and had these dreams I can't even describe. Half the time it was like I was not even asleep, I was just lying in my bed semi concious and had all these weird thoughts and dream-like ideas in my head, and I flowed in and out of sleep. Also, before I went to bed I was on the couch dozing off and I asked my boyfriend if he was going to take a nap before work and he said yes. Then I asked when he was going to take a nap and he said "in about 20 minutes". I said, "so you are going to bed in 20 minutes?" and he looked at me and said, "no, I didn't say that." I said "did I just dream that we had that conversation?" and he said I must have b/c I was sleeping and the first thing he heard me say was "so you are going to bed in 20 mins." It really seemed like the conversation happened though, and later I apparently *really* had a phone conversation with my mom and didn't remember it later. I guess I was delirious or something, and I know fevers can affect dreams.

Does anyone have more information on what physically happens to cause this when you are sick? Has anyone had similar experiences?

Well laracroft21 I sure hope you are or are getting to feeling better.

Basically when you have a fever and your body temerature gets too high, it causes hallucinations.
Some sight, some thought and some auditory.
But that is in effect what is happening, Delerium, a temporary state of mental confusion and fluctuating consciousness resulting from high fever.

I always have my best dreams (way more vivid than usual) when i'm sick, i guess that's the upside to being sick.

I tend to have recurring nightmares when having a fever
It's been a long time since that's happened, and I look forward to it. I become lucid in nightmares quite easily

"I look forward to it??" Give Laracroft your address and she can cough, spit and handle a sheet of paper and send it your way.

Just razzing you there Placeabo. I know that I sometimes like sleep deprivation for the obscure effects it has on my senses.

I had the flu last week. 102 degress for a few days.

But I didnt have any exceptional dreams. I had real good dream recall, like usual, but they were boring dreams, so i didnt even bother to write them down.

I wouldnt doubt that in most cases, being sick will have some effect on your dreams

Err. Thanks for the offer. For dreams, I'd say 'yes'. In terms of every other aspect of my life.... rather not
So you're starting to feel better?

yeah, I'm getting better. for some reason i couldn't eat while I was sick and even after my fever went away I had trouble eating. I'm finally (starting yesterday) getting to the point where I can eat normal meals (not just Ensure or fruit cups!) Thanks for the concern everyone.

I'm currently recovering from a fever. Last night I went to sleep at about 12:00. I thought I had slept for ages, but when I woke up, it was 2:00 AM. I actually thought for a while it was 2:00 PM. The fever must have affected my body clock.

I also had hallucinations. It's hard to explain, but it was like my eyes could zoom into an object like a microscope. It was well freaky.

Sometimes my mind is bombarded with random information. Last night my mind wanted to build a complex spaceship type thing.

      I hate being ill.

Once I had what we call "the crud" in Texas.. a viral infection, strep, etc.. (basically an overall "please let me die" feeling).

I was laying sick in bed late at night and started hallucinating my a$$ off! When I couldn't stop the theme from the "Adam's Family" from replaying loudly over and over and over in my head.. I woke my husband up and made him take me to the emergency room.

I STILL cringe when I hear that melody.

I've had some really weird sick dreams. I always have crazy, vividly colored and abstract dreams when I'm sick. Usually, for me they are just like one scene being replayed, with one small detail that's been changed. I like thses dreams, but they also annoy me a bit....I guess they remind me of my terrible sickness.
      Shine on, you crazy diamond!
