Have you played an instrument in a LD??

Has anyone played an instrument that they play in real life, but in a dream? Were you much worse, much better or about the same in the dream as you are in real life?? I finally found a guitar in one of my LD's and expected to shred! But I ended up playing the same exact stuff i usually play in real life lol.

I remember playing guitar in a normal dream, lol sounded so bad, worse than irl. In a lucid dream I tried to play piano once but it sounded awful too. After playing some chords a DC appeared from nowhere and asked me if he could play something. I gave him permission. He started playing a very coherent and interesting melody : )

I think it would be hard to play something in a LD that you never have irl, because how would you play something in a LD that youve never played IRL and expect it to sound good? Especially if you play irl, because then you kind of know what sounds good and what doesn't already. However, giving the instrument to a dream character is a different story I bet. Because your brain could have came up with some crazy stuff after watching so many different amazing people play that instrument irl. I bet your brain could make a DC do some amazing stuff on a guitar, if you had watched a lot of amazing guitarists on youtube for instance.. interesting.

But if you realize that it's a dream fully and that anythings possible couldn't you make yourself be able to play it? In the dream your movements on the instrument could create awsome music but irl those same movements could be nothing more than random strumming. Basically couldn't your mind create a good sound if you believed it would by using the instrument?

this is a very intresting concept... Once i had a dream (non lucid) that i was playing an electronic drum kit, & when i hit the pads it was like i was playing some sort of electro "glitch" type melody. I also remember playing on a monome. by the way, i dont play anything in rl, but i do have an obscene music tech fetish...lol

Yes you can play any instrument you want and be fantastic at it. Will you be playing chords that can theoretically be transcribed into real life? Probably not, as you've had no training or 'real' understanding of the particular instrument in mind. I myself play guitar and piano and have encountered many different kinds of instruments in my dreams. Namely, lucid dreams.

My reasonings for why you can play anything in your dreams is thus:

      1. The fact that you know what music is and know what it sounds like means you've most likely already stored enough musical information to reiterate melodies and harmonies through whatever nonsensical means you manifest. Of the thing's you've heard, your mind might limit your music to only replications OR allow you to create combinations (which is essentially composition).

      2. I've walked into rooms packed full of musical instruments I could only make vague sketches of in my waking hours. And, of course, I played these instruments. Now, I'm pretty sure I don't know how to play an instrument in my waking hours that doesn't exist in my waking hours. Yet, I can still make music.

The possibilities of your dreams are as infinite as you make them. When one asks questions like "can I do this in my dreams?" the mind may begin to create potential restrictions. Everyone's got enough restrictions in their waking life, from physics to taxes. Why bring those paradigms to the world of magic pancakes?

I use various instruments in real life, but am not overly talented with any. Mostly I'm on the computer / digital side of things..
however in dreams, I'm really good with guitar and bass. They never need an amp and just make sound around me.

It's often while not lucid, but I figured I'd post anyway. I'll sometimes produce the best song I could ever possibly make.. then I wake up, feeling like my hard drive crashed cause I no longer have the files. Always fun, but kind of not worth it. Haha..

..So when I'm lucid it would make sense that I'd not be too musical.
