Are you trying to WILD or just get to sleep? Personally, WILD doesn't work for me for much the same reason (I can't get my own mind to shut up), and I have to just decide to fall asleep "normally." That doesn't mean that it won't work for you if you continue to practice and work towards it.
If you're trying to WILD, how long have you been trying? If it's only been a couple of days, don't give up. Keep trying for about a week as sometimes it takes a little while for a technique to start sinking in. Also, try to not let yourself become stressed. Stress will not only make it more difficult for you to fall asleep, but it will affect your recall as well. If you find yourself becoming frustrated, just take a minute to step back and take a few deep breaths and calm yourself.
If you're just trying to fall asleep, that's another matter. Do you watch much TV or play video games before sleeping? Do you exercise before bed? Those things can stimulate your mind and make you feel more awake and it may take a while for your mind to quiet down. I'd recommend taking about 10-15 minutes before going to sleep to do something a little less stimulating such as reading a book, listening to some music, stretching, etc. It can also help if you start making a steady routine before going to bed. If you get into a routine, eventually your mind and body will start realizing that when you start this routine, it's time to calm down and prepare for sleep.
I understand how frustrating it is and I hope that you're able to find a way to fall asleep better. I hope this was helpful in some way.
