      I'm Getting There

      Hey guys!
I've known about lucid dreaming for a while, but I've been actually trying to become lucid for the past week or so. I keep a journal on my nightstand to record dreams, and then I post them on my DJ later. Yesterday I began to do random RC's in order to make it a habit, that way it's more likely I will look at my hands or whatever while I'm dreaming. I haven't had any luck in becoming lucid yet, but my dream recall has been consistent, so hopefully it will all work out soon.
Anyways, what are your methods of preparation in order to induce lucidity? I would love to hear your advice!!

I'm still new too, so I haven't had much time to fully experiment with all of the methods, but DILD has worked for me through the use of reality checks. I try to, several times during the day, just ask myself if anything weird is going on, maybe perform a reality check. I'm beginning to see a few dream signs, which seem to be dying pets, video games, and school.

Welcome to Dreamviews! Good luck in becoming lucid!

Welcome, TA. Along with building recall and doing RCs, reading other people's experiences and methods improves my odds quite a bit. I think the more thought you devote to dreams, the more likely you are to recognize when you're dreaming.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

I know how you feel! I think i'm making progress too, it's a great feeling

I had a semi-lucid (or you could say i was lucid but... drunk? it's the only way I can describe it haha) dream last night (my second) and when I woke up I couldn't stop smiling! My dad thought I was going crazy..

DILD is mostly the easier method to induce lucid dream...
Noting your dreams every night and being able to identify dreamsigns, is a great start to attain lucidity. Once you know your dreamsigns, it gets easier to DILD.
The school dreamsign is pretty cummon.
Make a habit to always RC when your dreamsigns occur in real life(waking state). Then in dreams you will most likely test your reality more often.

“Don't believe what your eyes are telling you. All they show is limitation. Look with your understanding, find out what you already know, and you'll see the way to fly.”

Yes, anytime something seems off IRL, I do a RC. Even if I know I'm awake. I've been reading DJ's daily and such, and I'm just being patient. It's funny how I get excited to go to bed lol.

Ha, I know exactly what you mean! I feel the same way, it's exciting to actually pay attention to your dreams rather than "wake-walk" through them by accepting everything as "reality."

I have been keeping a DJ for about a week now, and even in the short time I've noticed my dream recall is improving. I think the most difficult aspect for me is that for all my life I've never really questioned anything that happened in my dreams. For the first time, I have to actually force myself to become conscious during sleep, performing RCs and paying attention while dreaming. The tough part is that has been a foreign concept - UNTIL NOW!

It takes a LOT of effort for me, I haven't had a true lucid dream in months. As you say, us newbies are "getting there" and as long as we keep at training our minds to recognize that we are dreaming, we are on the right path!

      Sweet dreams!!!
