Light Switch RC left me in the dark

Any advise on this problem or similar experiences?

Dream: I'm at the computer in my room. The room is dark. The monitor is dim. I can't be bothered fiddling with the settings, so I get up and flick a light switch . Nothing happens - the light doesn't go on. I realise I am in a dream. It is exhilarating (I'm still very new to this), and I am also getting panic because of the dark which I can't dispel as I repeatedly hit the switch. I fear the dream is going to crumble. I search for something to stabilise it, but everything is very dark, I can't fix on anything... I wake up. (At this point I feel like some immense electric force is realsing my body from its grip, it is very intense - is this what it's like coming out of sleep paralysis?)

Any ideas on how to stabilise the dream if such circumstances arise again? Perhaps I should try to create a new scene by imagining something else entirely..
