      ACTUALLY...

Lucid Dreaming and/or Conscious dreaming makes you aware of your breathing and heart-rate, esp after you wake up.

It has been proven that some people who LD or CD notice that their body isn't breathing when it should, or they find it very difficult to do so. Then they feel like they have to "jump-start" it, or they go into some form of panic.

This is nothing to be to alarmed of. It is usually a form of Sleep Apnia

Just go to a doctor or a sleep clinic and express your concerns. It shoudl be relitively easy and inexpensive.

I think I disagree, I doubt he has sleep apnea. This is only happening when he becomes lucid, not during regular dreams, an indication that the problem is psychological rather than physiological. To me, he's clearly just getting over excited.
