      Always gasping for air?

Why is it that every time I realize I'm dreaming I'm left gasping for air? One night it just came to me that I was dreaming because I was in the middle of a zombie invasion. So basically I was almost being over run by zombies but then by realizing it was a dream, I wanted to do the impossible. I tried using my jedi powers to incinerate all the zombies but after I closed and opened my eyes I was left gasping for air. I felt like Darth Vader after Luke removed his mask. This always happens and it's annoying and makes it hard to focus on the lucid dream.

If you don't know what I'm talking about here: "I tried using my jedi powers to incinerate all the zombies" Look up Star Wars Unleashed II on Youtube.

      Things I have failed:
-Saying "clarity now" to make the dream clearer
      -Teleporting by closing my eyes
      -Talking
      -Walking

I think that the nightmare made you distressed enough for your physical body to display symptoms of it, including increased heart rate and the subsequent need for more breathing.

Well that sucks. I guess my subconscious is telling me that I'm not ready for a zombie invasion. Oh well back to video games.

What do you suggest I do to over come this?

      ACTUALLY...

Lucid Dreaming and/or Conscious dreaming makes you aware of your breathing and heart-rate, esp after you wake up.

It has been proven that some people who LD or CD notice that their body isn't breathing when it should, or they find it very difficult to do so. Then they feel like they have to "jump-start" it, or they go into some form of panic.

This is nothing to be to alarmed of. It is usually a form of Sleep Apnia

Just go to a doctor or a sleep clinic and express your concerns. It shoudl be relitively easy and inexpensive.

I think I disagree, I doubt he has sleep apnea. This is only happening when he becomes lucid, not during regular dreams, an indication that the problem is psychological rather than physiological. To me, he's clearly just getting over excited.
