Thread: Vivid, consciously controlled dreams.. but never lucid

Basically.. the title really does explain it. Most.. if not all of my dreams are like this. I see everything.. and think about it all as if it were real life. I can choose to pick up this or that.. or go over there. ...But it means nothing to me until I wake up. I have no REAL control. It's like a movie almost.. but the movie has myself thinking.

It's hard to explain but I'm sure this forum will understand. My dream just ends up feeling like a memory from real life.. but I only notice what was screwy when I wake up. I'd love to be able to lucid dream.. but only once in the past 10 months have I actually said "wait holy crap I'm dreaming SWEET" and I woke up. Talk about being upset at yourself.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any advice or ideas about this? I'm really not sure where to start anymore.


Also, from what I've read you can more or less talk to your subconscious. Has anyone experienced this?

That's certainly a good start, is this with or without a dream journal and attempting to induce lucid dreaming?

This is actually just natural. It's been this way for me for a long time. I remember as a kid the nightmares would freak me out but some dreams I've remembered for life.. most not being important. (Like a dream where.. I came home and a friend was vacuuming). They're so real my mind accepts them like memories and I go on with life. But of course I know I was dreaming.

So no dream journal or anything. Some dreams I could only describe in a sentence or two.. would those be worth writing down?

I've heard of people (my friend is one of them) who have dreams where they control the dream but aren't quite lucid. I can only imagine how frustrating that would be.

Definitely start your dream journal. After a while those dreams that would only be a sentence or two will end up being more detailed. After all, that's the aim of a dream journal; improving recall.
So yeah write what you can for now and expand on it as much as you can. Heck, you may find that you only think you'll squeeze out a sentence or two but after you get going might not be able to stop.

Another thing I'd suggest is to read the following tutorial How to Lucid Dream - Dreamviews Lucid Dreaming Community & Resource. It's got to be my favourite and shortly after starting his weekly course I had my first lucid dream. From there, you can start to get an idea of what works for you and tailor your weekly schedule to your own needs.

Most importantly, read, read, read — read as much as you can on the subject — and hang out here with other dreamers.
