      Brainwave Generator

Is it possible for me to change the settings on this to induce Lucid Dreaming. I would rather try it myself before paying Forty Dollars.

Well, with the brainwave gen, you can change the setting so that the sound goes to the frequency you want it. What I've done on mine, is found the frequency the brain is at during REM sleep, which I can't think of right at this moment, and tuned it into the Brainwave Gen and labelled the preset "The Awakened Mind" It actually helps my percentages of having more vivid, if not lucid dreams while its playing during my sleep. Hope that helps.

What if one just plays the general sleep preset at 120 minutes and then inserts some kind of mild alarm but not quite loud enough to actually wake me. Would this work. I have heard one can download this to Wav to play on a cd player as I don't fancy leaving my pc on all night.

You know, thats a very good idea. The main thing you will want to focus on will be the sound of the alarm itself. The only thing you'll have to say to yourself is: "When I hear the alarm, I will become lucid." And that should be enough, after a little practice, to trigger your LD's.

      Good luck.

Thanks. Will follow your advice. Also was you the one who posted the "off the wall" (Vans) post. They cost a bloody fortune here in England. Just that "off the wall" comment reminded me of Vans. Sorry, going off subject.

Hmm. I remember saying something about how I usually have 'off the wall' dreams in a post. I'm not sure if thats what you're talking about, though. If so, its just something I got from the people around me, growing up, I didn't know that Vans used it though, if you're talking about the Vans shoe. Hehe.

      What's a brainwave generator?
Sorry if I'm asking for something obvious, I'm new.

Its an audio software that puts out binaural beats, which roughly produce the same frequencies as your brainwaves at different stages. You put on headphones, and you can play a sound that can help atune your brain to a certain fequency. Some frequencies are better for mediation, relaxation, some for focusing, some for getting more activity out of your brain when your body is feeling tired. There are a Bunch of different settings. When you sleep you go through 4 different brainwave patterns, and if you find the frequency the human brain is tuned to when one is dreaming, which you can look up online, you can set the brainwave generator to that as well, which sometimes helps me have vivid dreams.

Are these programs expensive? IF not it might be worth trying out.

Otherwise I'm a little skeptic, isn't the only think common in both brainwaves and sound waves the fact that they are waves? I mean... isn't it like two completely different kind of waves?

They are two completely different types of waves, but the sound works to Mimick these waves. The low, inaudible hum that your brain makes when these waves are undulating from it, produce a frequency, just like any normal sound. When you are fully adrenalized and focused and alert, you operate at a very high frequency, when you are completely relazed and mellow, your frequency is so low that you can sometimes feel the low, soothing waves actually shaking your very being. I'm sure you've felt that before.
So these sounds work to help set your mind to a certain frequency. And of course, like any other thing, I can only tell you how they are supposed to work. I have one and can feel the relaxating factor when I have it on a low setting, and keeping it on a high, alert setting when I got to sleep, helps keep my mind sharp and attentive, which usually helps me have lucid dreams and better dream recall.
I got a free trial off of the internet from a random lucid dreaming site. Go to google and type in "brainwave gen" or something to that nature, and I'm sure you can find it.

Best to use headphones. I just bought an extension lead. Works well but now I worry about the electricity bill. (lol).

      Evidence?

Is there any real evidence that brainwave generators can influence dominant brainwave frequencies? I've seen a lot of unsubstantiated claims on the web. Has the theory ever been published in a credible, peer reviewed scientific journal?
