      Curing insomnia with LD techniques?

      I've known what lucid dreaming was for a few years now, but the past 3 days I've started to get serious with it. My whole life I've never been able to sleep well, even when I was a kid (22 now). I've never had it diagnosed or treated....I've just kind of dealt with it. Sometimes I'd have to stay awake for over 24 hours just to be tired enough to finally fall asleep. I normally just medicate with marijuana, as its the fastest working natural sleep aid that has worked for me...I refuse to take any sort of narcotic chemical sleeping pills.

      However, I have to stop smoking for about a month...so I'm going to try and solve this naturally. So far I feel like I have made some progress...The past 3 nights I've been falling asleep between 11-midnight and waking up between 8-9am. Very rare for me, I almost never have any sort of consistent sleeping schedule. I've been reading a lot about tryptophan>serotonin>melatonin, so I've been trying to eat the right types of foods to boost those levels.

      I am getting to sleep without any aid now, however it still takes a good hour to an hour and a half of trying to relax in complete darkness to get to a point where I can fall asleep. My dream recall is improving, and the last three days I've remembered parts of at least 1-3 dreams every night. Which is a big step up for me, because I used to NEVER remember my dreams.

      So basically what I was asking, is if any of you LD'ers out there had insomnia at one point and what you did to fix it? My main goal is to figure out how to fall asleep quickly. It always feels like I have restless eyes when trying to fall asleep...they feel like they have a mind of their own and want to twitch and open. However, last night (even though it took forever) I was able to relax and keep my eyes rested. I just cant seem to turn my brain off. If I try to relax and not think about anything, I'm thinking about not thinking about anything. Then Im thinking about-not thinking about-not thinking about anything....and it just goes and goes and goes. However, I am experiencing progress, so I know its all just a matter of keeping at it. Any tips or encouragement you guys can give me is much appreciated

      Well, often when people try to fall asleep they try to think about nothing. And that never works. So it's always good to have something on your mind. Not thinking about it too much, but just sort of have it in the background. I've never suffered from Insomnia, but like most people, I have had nights were it's just impossible for me to fall asleep. But recently, as I've been trying to induce SP, I've been able to fall asleep very easily, since I'm relaxed, but not really even thinking of sleep, so it just sort of happens.
