First Post - An experience I cannot classify

Hi all. I found this board searching for a community that discusses dreams, Astral projection, etc., and am glad I came across this one.

I am seeking guidance on one of several weird experiences I have had in the last year, dream-wise.

Several months ago, I woke up at 1:30am in strong sleep paralysis (have never had this before in my life, but knew what it was because my roommate experiences it quite frequently). At first I realize this, then notice a dark figure shadowing and hanging in the corner of my room over my shoulder (I was laying on my side. I could only make out its distortions but could feel its presence). Thereafter, the thing seemed to focus on me more and more, and whispers from it began to progressively get louder and louder with words I didn't understand in my ear. The door to my left began shaking and banging violently as if something was trying to get in. It all grew faster and more profound until it stopped out of nowhere and I rose out of the experience.

This was a time in my life when I was strongly rooted in love, for myself and others, and had an inner peace and energy that I have never had before. When this happened I was terrified, but knew that it was a product of fear and so stayed strong until it went away.

Other than what I have talked about, I know nothing else about this experience. Information and/or relevant experiences would be much appreciated.

      Thanks.

Most people who experience sleep paralysis do not hallucinate, but some do. As you know, what you saw and heard was a hallucination, as was the door opening and closing. It's also common to feel a weight on your chest.

Thanks Diane. Didn't have the weight on my chest. I have had similar experiences but that one didn't feel like a hallucination.

Anyone else have similar experiences / thoughts?

      Audio hallucination. Visual hallucination.

Also, when you are in SP, hallucinations mostly appear out of the corner of your eye. It's like the brain purposefully taunts you!

I wouldn't worry about this too much. Its normal.

      Got it.

So as far as lucid dreaming goes, I've been reading that SP is a precursor to stepping into the LD world. Is this correct?

Yes, it is. You just have to keep awake consciously.

I've felt the weight on the chest. I knew what it was so it didn't freak me out.

Yeah, no need to worry about it as it happens every night, you're just not awake to observe it usually. The exact effects of SP vary for each person, but your case is an example of about the worst it can throw at you.
