      Dan62 here!

      Hey guys,

This is my first post here. Iv'e known about this site for a while, but I recently had my first lucid dream and decided that I should join the forums.

I have tried for a while now to try and have a lucid dream, but to no avail. I kept a dream journal for a while, but it seems like when I try and purposely remember my dreams, I can't ever remember them, but normally I remember my dreams most mornings. Yesterday I had my first lucid dream, but I don't know how it happened.

I was dreaming normally for quite a while before it happened. In my dream my family and I were swimming through a large body of water when we go to a very tall wall. We climbed the wall and on the other side was an office building. We hoped over the wall and someone in the building asked us to come into his office for a moment. As we were walking in, I thought to myself, in these exact words. "Screw it, I can do whatever I want." Then immediately after, "Oh my God, i'm having a lucid dream." That's when I started testing it out. I turned around and walked around, went into a bathroom, walked around some more and decided to see if I could make someone I knew appear into my dream by imagining a door before I turned a corner. It sort of worked. A door appeared, but when I walked in there were just two random girls. When I walked in I suddenly woke up. It was a pretty short experience.

Does anyone know how I suddenly had this lucid dream? I didn't do anything to try and make it happen, it just did. Also, what are some good beginner tips for me to try it again?

Hi and welcome! You had a DILD and it's common to get those when you least expect to when you're starting to take an interest in lucid dreaming. They come at random and you can't know when. If you haven't, I suggest you try the WBTB technique out. Combine it with a few mantra's and visualizations. Visualize yourself becoming lucid and doing awesome things, or previous dreams where you change the outcome by imagining yourself becoming lucid.

Having a goal is very important and the harder you try and really believe you will get lucid to achieve the goal, the easier it gets. If you have no success for a few weeks, then relax and take a break.

Good luck! And if you have any further questions, feel free to ask them here.

Thanks, i'll definitely start trying that out tonight.

I just have one more question. Is it possible to induce a lucid dream through some kind of sound? Like, if I had an alarm and turned the volume low so that it won't wake me up, would that work?

Yes that is possible. There's a few threads about it in the "Attaining Lucidity" part of the forum. If you get an alarmclock that turns itself off two or three seconds after it's started ringing, you can wake up and lie completely still. This technique is called DEILD. Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dream. I often do this when I have had a lucid. It takes some practice though, and watch out for the False Awakening

Also there's binaural beats. They are said to make you go lucid if you listen to them. Those threads can be found in the "Dream Aids" section. Good luck!
