DILD - My very first (accidental) lucid dream

      Hello community,

Saturday morning I had my very first lucid dream... and I wasn't even actively trying. I've been working on dream recall since January, but for the past two weeks I've been just hitting the bed at night and going to sleep. Well, Saturday morning I woke up at around 7:00am and hit the bathroom. Afterwards, I went right back to sleep. My lucid dream was as follows:

I was in my bedroom with my wife. From what I can tell this was the beginning of my dream. Almost immediately she asked me if I was dreaming, I thought about it for a second and said to her, "I don't know, let's see" and I plugged my nose and breathed through it. Immediately I realized that I was dreaming and became lucid. I was very excited and thought I should try to do something amazing. I turned around on the bed and jumped off of it. I flew through the air as if gravity was extremely weak. I landed across the room and as soon as I did I woke up.

I wonder if I was too excited after I realized I could fly and woke up because of that. My lucid dream was very short and it felt like I could have stayed there longer but I didn't even have a chance to dream spin or do anything to prolong it. I just suddenly became very aware that I was laying in my bed.

I will say this though, the lucid dream experience was very powerful. When I was in my dream, I didn't become conscious of it until my wife asked me if I was dreaming. That's what is so amazing about dreams and lucid dreams. You only remember your dreams, but when you become lucid in a dream you remember it as you experience it. So fascinating. I loved it. And, it was just as real as everyone says lucid dreams are. I felt as though it was real life. Of course, now it only seems like a memory, but so does what I did at work last week.

I have only worked on DILDs and I think I will continue to do so until I actually have the time to work on WILDs. But, as the research has shown, the WBTB worked for me this time. I woke up, went to the bathroom, and went back to bed. And suddenly I was lucid in my dream once I questioned it.

My lucid dream reality checks must be active in my mind because I'm sure it was only because of my interest and knowledge of lucid dreaming techniques that I was able to perform the breathe through your nose reality check when my wife asked the question.

Congrats dude! Glad you got to experience it. Lucid dreams are truly something else...just a completely different experience than anything else. With tons of dreamers, that first lucid is short because of all the emotion. Not just the excitement, but the amazement, that whole new world of discovery feeling, the high sense of accomplishment...its just surreal. All that emotion going on will get your actual body's blood pumping and wake you up. Once you get a few under your belt, you will figure out how to balance emotion within the dream. Just wait until you have one of those LDs where everything around you is impossible in real life, and yet its happening. And it all feels so real. Awesome job and keep practicing. Now that you know you can lucid dream...you will have many more to come. Keeping your mind on LDing alone, will spark lucid dreams (as you witnessed first hand)!

Thanks @ninja9578 - I'm sure they do! And I'm glad that I was able to attain lucidity even though I wasn't actively trying. Now I know I can do it and I just have to continue to work on it and continue with reality checks.
