      Red face Hi all.

Hello. I am new here and wanted to take a minute to introduce myself.
I am a wife, mother, and teacher. I have 2 kids - my son is 9 and my daughter is 4.

As a child I would have recurring nightmares about a man who was kidnapping local girls. I told my parents and they just dismissed it as normal kid sleep problems and a wild imagination. There was always a shadow man on my bedroom wall too. My dad would yell at me and tell me it was in my head. My mom would come into my room and move my furniture and nicknacks around but it would always return. I feared him at first and then came to have a quiet understanding with him... hey he had never hurt me before so he must just be a silent protector? When I was 13 my grandma whom I was really close with was murdered. I remember sitting at the kitchen table just crying my eyes out with my mom (it was her mom) and suddenly we both heard this strange beeping sound. It was coming from the counter which was covered with food dishes people had brought over to offer their condolences. We looked at each other, stopped crying, and began looking for the cause of this noise. After about 15 minutes of unproductive searching, we both began to laugh. We then realized the noise had diverted our attention from crying and feeling sad and it had to be grandma!!! She didn't want us to sit there feeling sorry. Later that year, on my birthday, I was doing homework in my bedroom and my lights began to go dim, bright, dim, bright. I thought it was strange and mentioned it to no one. A few weeks later, report cards came out and my sister, my parents, and I were all sitting around the kitchen table looking over our report cards. My dad said he was so proud of us for getting good grades. The lights in the kitchen began to dim, brighten, dim, brighten. My mom smiled and said, "Grandma is proud of you girls too! The lights are clapping!" My dad of course, the closed-minded skeptic that he is, said it had to be an electrical short in the lights. The lights did that for at least 8 years after she passed away on and off. Some times it would go months and months without doing it. My parents STILL live in that house and the lights do not do that any more. They have never had an electrician out to the house to repair wiring. Wonder what my dad has to say about that? LOL.

When I turned 20 I started to have OBE's only I had never heard of out of body experiences before. I was convinced I was being attacked by aliens or demons. I became terrified of sleep. Sleep was my enemy since it lead to more OBE's. I had them EVERY SINGLE night for months and then they tapered off. I still have them now and I still have not learned to control them. I don't ask for them to happen, they just do, on their own timeline. I have heard some strange muffled troll-like voices during OBE's. I have also heard voices clear as day say things like, "June," "Wooo doggies, now this is more like it!," "The damn lighthouse won't quit calling," ".....(couldn't make out first part).... in heaven," and so many more things. During my OBE's I don't usually leave my bedroom. In fact I hover either right on top of my body or right next to it. I usually do not open my eyes and I only once spoke.

Well, so what brings me here? I am done being scared... or at least I keep telling myself that! LOL. I am here to read up on other people's experiences and hopefully retrain my brain to BELIEVE whole-heartedly that their is a greater purpose and reason for doing what I do and that they are POSITIVE experiences moreso than not. I want to learn and gain knowledge and grow and develop. When I'm not having OBE's or researching I feel like I'm out of sorts... disconnected... on the wrong path...

So, in a nut shell this is me. Thanks for reading. I apologize for it's length but you should also know that I could have gone on and on even more. LOL. Man, maybe I should write a book!!

The one thing I can tell you outta this is that the shadow was hypnagogia. good thing you overcame it

If I am correct, your Obes can lead to lots of lucid dreaming so i would be HAPPY to have them.

Of course, you should be done being scared as they aren't unhealthy or anything.

Also. most of us newbies desperately WANT these shadowed figures to come or Obes. So.... well...... I envy you

What is hypnagogia? Why is it a good thing I overcame it if most of you want shadowed figured? Hmmm...
Nothing to envy here the way I see it. LOL. I have no control over it. I have had a few Lucid Dreams before. Most memorable one was when my son was an infant. My husband told me it was my turn to get up with him and I dreamt that I got up but only the house looked DIFFERENT. I felt myself get up. I felt myself get him a bottle. I heard the bottle shaking. Etc. etc. etc. I awoke minutes (maybe?) later to my husband shaking me telling me to get up and feed the baby! I actually ARGUED with him that I already had. I REALLY, REALLY thought I did. It felt SO REAL.

Hypnogagoia are hallucinations that occur usually during sleep paralysis (you can't move your body because your conscious mind has been almost "disconnected" from it)

As for having no control over your OBEs, during them are you able to move around? Are you aware of what's happening? Have you tried to end them, and do you have a different body while you see your physical body? I believe that what people describe as OBEs are physiologically the same thing as a dream or lucid dream, and that your consciousness is simply disconnected from your real body and you are perceiving an imaginary body or no body at all. Unless you are having these OBEs spontaneously while awake, in which case I am not so sure.

If you want to take control of an OBE you should start trying to touch things, feel things, and do what you would do in an LD. Open your perceived eyes and make sure to look around. If you start feeling things rapidly you should start to gain sight. Make sure you stand or float upright as quickly as possible, because if you keep feeling yourself you will eventually exit the experience. The first time you gain full vision in an OBE you will probably be scared by the vividness. You may even feel like you're able to see super distances or that you have vivid color and detail in your peripheral vision. From here you will be able to control the experience as if it were a dream. I believe they are the same thing as a dream but with a different kind method of entry and are in no way spiritual. The way I have been able to induce them gives me reason to believe that they are probably a type of WILD.

On a final note, in order for a dream to be lucid you need to know that you are dreaming. What you have described was a normal dream about feeding the baby. If it were lucid you would have realized it was a dream when the house looked different, not after you had woken up.

Oh man I had this LONG reply typed out and when I hit POST QUICK REPLY it gave me an error message that I was no longer connected to the internet. Crazy!

So here we go again, I hope...

First, the dream regarding feeding my crying son. I did realize I was dreaming when I went into the kitchen to make his bottle and it looked different. But even though I knew I was dreaming it still felt like I really had already fed him. That is how real it felt.

The OBE's are spontaneous and when I am in an inbetween awake/asleep state but I am very alert. I can hear things going on IN REAL TIME usually. For instance, just last week I had one and I heard a man's voice say, "THE DAMN LIGHTHOUSE WON'T QUIT CALLING!" And I heard my alarm clock going off. I felt my husband roll over and get out of bed. I heard him go downstairs and wake our son. I then heard him return upstairs and tell me it was time to wake up. I could hear all of this but was paralyzed as I always am. I couldn't move, I couldn't speak. I then concentrated on wiggling my fingers and toes and was able to snap back. I woke up and asked him if he mentioned something about the lighthouse calling. He said, "Who? Ummm, no." LOL.

Before I go on I should explain that I'm not really 100% sure OBE is what I do. I mean... Other than the time I went to this huge library or office building I never really "go" anywhere. At least not that I can see or sense. I don't really know if I leave my body or if it's just my consciousness that does. Do you know what I mean? When it first began happening (14 years ago) I would actually feel myself peel out of my body. Freaky. I don't feel that anymore. I still feel the vibrations head-to-toe though.

My most vivid OBE was about 4 years ago during a nap. I heard this woman yelling, "HELLO! HI! HELLO? CAN YOU HEAR ME!?" I tried to respond but all that came out was a vibratory, muffled, unintelligible mess. She laughed at me and said that was normal for the first time and it would get better. She was right. It did. Suddenly I opened my eyes and was at this huge library or office building. I don't know how I got there. I never felt myself flying or floating or anything in between. I was just there. I have never seen such a place before so I have no idea where it could be located. The woman was wearing scrubs and I immediately knew she was a nurse. We spoke as she climbed a ladder and put some supplies I couldn't see into a tub she was carrying from a huge filing cabinet drawer. She said she was sorry but she had to leave to go check on my mom. I later found out that my mom had a doctor's appointment a few days later and found out she was cancer-free!!! I think I got to meet my mom's spiritual healer!!!

Going to post now so I don't lose it again. LOL.

As far as feeling things when in OBE...

      1. I have felt my hair being played with,
      2. I have felt someone or something pinching me,
      3. I once felt this negative feeling creature straddling my back - felt like a big cat like a lion or tiger - when I got scared it clamped down tighter every time,
      4. I have felt sensations in the genetial area,
      5. I have felt someone breathing heavily into my ear and on the side of my face,
      6. I once felt a rock between my fingers and I was rubbing it - of course there was nothing in my physical fingers when I awoke,
      7. I once felt my blanket pulled down off my back

      ^

      that is perfectly normal

      and..... here we go

hypnagogia happens within the border of awake and sleep. It happens with eyes closed (MOSTLY). you may see swirling colours, landscape, or horrific things. If you're eyes are open, the shadow might appear.

      just in case

I think you are feeling sleep paralysis and occasionally getting OBEs. During SP you will feel the vibrations, be unable to move, and hallucinate maybe voices maybe see things. These can then turn into a dream. This is how WILDing works. You may have been unintentionally WILDing, although that seems unlikely.

This is all speculation... but next time you experience these hallucinations you could try looking for images on the back of your eyelids and watching them. They could form a dream and you may become part of it. The techniques described in this video helped me get my first LDs and you can use them to enter a WILD if you find yourself in sleep paralysis again. Direct Techniques | Out-of-Body Experience (OBE)

Well they definitely do NOT turn into a dream since I snap back "in" and wake up afterwards trying to remember everything and wondering what just happened.

I also am quite sure they are NOT hallucinations since during one experience my husband had a similar one. There was a woman bugging me. I was "out" (I think?) and I felt the vibrations and I could hear her talking (as in with my physical ears). She looked a lot like Princess Leah from StarWars. I kept trying to get out of it because she scared me. She kept yelling, "Wait! Don't go!" My eyelids (spiritual ones I think?) kept fluttering open/shut, open/shut... I finally snapped myself out of it and laid there awake. My husband, sleeping next to me, began to hallucinate. I let him go for awhile because he has gotten upset with me for waking him up before since he said he was talking to and helping a spirit. Anyhow... then his breathing became more deep and labored and I shook him awake. He said, "There's a woman on your side of the bed and she won't leave you alone!" I was like WHOA! That WAS REAL. I had not had the chance to tell him about it not even one tiny little bit. How else could he have known? He went on to tell me that he chased her through the house telling her to leave. She kept refusing saying I needed to help her. He then got so angry and frustrated with her that he said to her, "God wants your head to blow up!" He still feels very remorseful and terrible for having said that to her. He doesn't know why he said that to her either except that he wanted her to leave me alone and she refused. He got his wish. She got the point and left... never to return...

Anyhow.... I used to think these experiences were made up in my imagination or freaky hallucinations too.... but that ONE experience just validated it all for me.

Maybe I should mention that I once went to see a medium who was trained by James Van Praaugh who told me that I was clauradient and was also a gifted medium? It could be that I'm not OBE-ing at all. But something IS truly happening and I am surely hearing the spirit realm during this state of consciousness. Now if I could only learn to do it from a fully awake state! That would be awesome. I'd love nothing more than to help people who are grieving and to help spirits who have unresolved issues here on Earth.
