      That must be it...or not.

This happended to me twice: I was in my dream faced with monsters. In both dreams I started out without means of defending myself.
And when in those two dreams the situation became really bad, the idea came suddenly that I'm suposed to be able to "will" anything that I wanted. So I promptly did and blew the monsters away with a big pump action shot gun. And the dreams ended.

But the thing is that all the time the idea that I was actually dreaming never occured to me.

So strictly (or not) speaking, did I have a LD ?

That's makes me say it wasn't an LD... If you were lucid you would probably realise it was a dream. Anyway, i think the definition is "A dream in which you're aware you're dreaming," so if you didn't have that, then my opinion is you weren't lucid.

How did you suddenly realise you could just blast them away without the thought of it being a dream ever crossing your mind?

Muse.v is right. The only "regulation" for a dream to be a lucid dream is that you're aware that you're dreaming. It doesn't really matter whether you can control it or not. Sometimes you have normal dreams you can control and sometimes you have lucid ones you can't control.

So, speaking with the right terms, that wasn't an LD if you didn't realize you were dreaming.

The same thing has happened to me several times. Sometimes I somehow know I have some control over a situation by imagining or pretending things, but I'm not aware of actually being asleep in my bed.

Personally, I wouldn't classify those dreams as lucid. But I have no real idea hows your's seemed to you, so I can't really judge there.

when i was younger i would sometimes recognise the connection between what i was thinking, and how it would make things happen exactly how i didn't want. I'd think "I hope the monster isn't hiding in the dark behind me" and sure enough, he would be there because i was expecting him to be. I thought i had to try to not think bad things, but that sort of made it worse. A lot of the time I would only realise the connection later though, so they weren't really lucid dreams. I didn't think of using it too do fun stuff either...

      just felt like sharing.

i agree with Citrusponge in that we can't really judge because we're not you and have no real idea about how it really was, and you have to decide for yourself...

If I would try really hard to discribe it, It was like "hey wait ! I dont have to run. I'm suposed to be able to make anything happen". Like that. Its really very hard to put it any other way.

If you knew you were dreaming, you were lucid. At some point I had what someone called a Semi-Lucid, where I wasn't officially lucid, but I was aware that I could control my surroundings. The term is rather vague, but still....

It seems as if this might qualify as a very strong dream sign. Next time you feel like you have power over something, do a reality check. Then, you'll do it in a dream and possibly go lucid.

(I haven't gone lucid willingly...ever... but this sounds like it might work from the stuff I've read...)

listen, control and dream lucidity are two completely different things. sure, you might have a dream where you realize you can control anything you want, but unless you realize that the explaination for that is that you're dreaming then it is -not- a lucid dream.

      do what you want.

if all you want to do is control your dreams, you can either wait until you happen to have a dream in which you're able to control what you want, or figure out a way to have those kinds of dreams.
the easiest way to do it though is to learn to lucid dream, so you realize when you're dreaming so you know you have control.

Jeff, I've had dreams where I could control situations- but trust me, an LD is totally different. You will definitely know. The first time I realized I was lucid, was right in the midst of a dream when I actually realized that I was dreaming. The realization of this was so incredible- that I almost awoke right then and there. What I was dreaming of suddenly had no significance and slowly faded into obscurity- yet, I was still standing right in the middle of this neighborhood street in the dead of night with this awesome realization and power. I experimented a little- but the realization was so overwhelming, that to my discontent, I awoke. It is so life-like real, that I had to create a small LD test, before I start experimenting with any LD, just to make sure that it is an LD and not a real life situation. The test I use to insure that I'm really dreaming- is to jump straight up in the air. If I can count up to at least 3 seconds before landing back on my feet- it's an LD. Then the fun begins. I'll get into more detail in the proper forum- as to some of my experiences and techniques that I use. Goodluck in you quest.
