      newbie question about RC's

      Hi,

This may seem a stupid question but for someone who has not been lucid it may not be, anyway i keep reading one way to become lucid is to do a reality check. i understand if you keep doing these in waking life you will also do them in dreams but sometimes i read 'just do a rc', how can you do them if your not already lucid or is it checks you do to confirm you are lucid i see a chicken and egg scenario here.

      Thanks

"how can you do them if your not already lucid"

You don't have to be lucid to do a RC, the whole point is to check reality, as in, see if you're in reality or a dream. Doing a RC in a dream will make you lucid if done correctly. It is also used to confirm if you're in a dream, if you were tipped off by a dream sign or something.

The idea is to do reality checks in real life. Hopefully this carries over into your dreams. If you start looking for out of the ordinary things in real life and doing RCs when you see them, then hopefully you'll do the same in a dream and become lucid.

Some people get very good results by simply doing RCs at random throughout the day. If you can remember to do that it will eventually become automatic and you'll reality check in dreams more.

      Thanks,

strangely enough i had what i think was my first lucid dream last night. for no reason i held my nose and tried blowing (i haven't been doing while awake so don't know why i did it) and i could still blow through my nose then it was like a switch being turned on everything became instantly more vivid and real but i knew it was a dream. the dream location was at work as i knew i was dreaming i got a bit excited and started running and jumping on all the office furniture i then calmed my self down to try some other things but i think the excitement was too much and i woke up. i do seem to have a lot of dreams about work or work people so maybe this is one of my dream signs? maybe thats why i did the reality check. such a wonderful strange experience

now i can understand the answer to my question now thanks again for your replies

Yeah, work could be a dream sign for you in this case. Practice doing RCs there until it becomes a habit, that way you'll do it in dreams without even thinking.
