How can my dream just explode like this?

This has probably not been the first time you long time members have heard about stuff like this, but I have a question about a dream of mine.

This dream occured about a year after my dog died (to whom I was very close too).

I was having a lucid dream, with my yard as the setting. At the time, I really missed my dog and I wanted to see him. Seeing as I could do whatever I wanted to, I conjured up my dog. It wasn't difficult at all, but when I tried to approach him my voice told me that he was dead and that this could not be happening. Next, I heard another voice that was also mine. It said that this was just a dream and I could do whatever I wanted. The two voices began arguing. I didn't really care about them, so I tried to reach out and pet my dog. The first voice, somehow, kept me from being able to reach him. Suddenly, the voices stopped but there was a tense feeling in the air around me, so I knew the battle was still being fought. Finally, in all my frustrating, and anger, and sadness, I screamed as loud as I could. The dream exploded into fuzzy balls of light that came floating down around me. As they fell they dissappeared and everything else was black. The tense feeling of a battle never left though, even after I woke up.

I think the first voice stood for reality and the second voice stood for fantasy. I indulge in both very deeply.

      My questions are:

      Why did my dream explode?
      And, What was going on?

I've never actually heard of anything like this. I really don't know what it was, but it seems to me that the realization that something was happening that really couldn't, and then the arguing with yourself over it probably just overwhelemed you and caused you to wake up? maybe the stress just...happened to make it "explode"?
while I've never heard of anything particularly like this, I wouldn't consider it unusual...just an intense, emotional dream is all.

      just my thoughts.

Ignorant bliss is an oxymoron; but so is miserable truth.
