      Walking Downstairs...

This has been a reoccurring aspect of my dreams for a little while now. Normally in a house, although not always, I am looking for or hiding from something when I find a staircase that goes down stairs. Sometimes I can see kind of what is downstairs but sometimes the staircase is walled in. When it is walled in, only half of it is so my curiosity is always peeked and I go down the staircase and inspect the room.

This is where it gets weird. I always find another staircase. So I continue in my dreams to travel down staircase after staircase after staircase, looking in all the rooms which are always well decorated and taken care of.

And the stairs are always carpeted.

Sometimes I find people or other things that sway the dream in a certain direction, but ever what I was looking for in the first place.

My dreams are lucid in the fact that they are extremely detailed, just like life, and I experience them in normal time. It's like I am in this world were no matter how strange it would be, everything is as it should be and normal. I live through these scenarios and deal with the consequences. My dreams can last for days in a single dream, and I have 1-3 dreams like these a night. (Normally because I toss and turn a lot.)

Can anyone help me interpret what this might mean?

well basically some dreams happen over and over in some people minds for some reason and others for no reason... some dreams mea nothing and others everything, i believe that in this case it is just a reacurring dream that doesnt have much meaning and you should train your brain to do a reality check everytime you come up to a staircase.
in the real world when you are awake do a reality check everytime you getup to a staircase that way when it does this in the dream you will be able to make the choices and not just be along for the ride... i hope this helped.

P.S. strange enough though my most detailed and memorable dream has staircases in it also however to me my dream made a ton of sense, its the only drea in my dream journal but its a good read, check i out if you want

I think this has a lot of meaning. Many times, in dreams, a house with lots of rooms represents your soul, or your psyche. Each room could be an aspect of your psyche, a window into your soul. Going down staircases is a universal symbol for going into your subconscious, your ancestral memory, and the underworld. It sounds like you have a lot down there. I recommend exploring it, doing some renovation and redecorating, take out some walls, etc... Of course also fallow Grizzley' s advice and treat it as a dreamsign so you can lucidly explore it. I have always had a recurring dream of a mansion that had all these staircases and hidden rooms in hidden floors halfway between other floors. I would always go to the attic. At first it was all dark and dusty and full of bats. As I worked on it I cleaned it out, had windows all the way around and a beacon lantern like a lighthouse, and eagles were flying in and out. Then I no longer had that dream.

i have never actually heard that it can be like a way into yourself... but it sounds plosible like i mean i had one before where each room i looked into was a memory and i could walk into them, it was pretty cool...
however me personally i believe that some dreams may have lesser meaning that others and some dont

Granted. Not all dreams have much meaning. Many are just gibberish. And what meaning there is found in a dream does not come from the dream itself, but projected by the mind of the interpreter, who is also the dreamer. But it is the mind of the dreamer which also dreams. Dreams do speak a language of symbols that your mind communicates to you. It is the same language that myths speak and oracles such as tarot cards. tarot cards aren't some magic cards that can tell the future or that magically provide insight into yourself, they are symbols that the mind understands in a deeper way than linear conceptual thinking. Dreams speak this language also, well, some of them.

But the mansion or big house and the basement and staircases are Universal dreamsigns in all cultures that have basements and staircases. Just like big bodies of water like oceans are also very consistent dreamsigns across the world representing the emotional side of the subconscious. By actually paying attention to these symbols and hidden meanings dreams become even more clear and symbolic as it seems to create a bridge between the conscious and the subconscious in a way that excites the subconscious. It seems to say think "Wow, he is finally listening to me and understanding me! Now I am going to communicate every abstract feeling I have had but had nobody to listen." It makes for epic dreams and tremendous self-knowledge. The trivial gibberish dreams fade away.

But of course all the meaning is within yourself already and is projected onto the dream. It is just that we don't really know ourselves as intimately as we would like to and dreams are the best tool around for self-knowledge.
