Oh, hello. I didn't see you there.

Hello, my name is Pinnacle, and I'm new here. Two nights ago, I had the most fantastic dream. Usually, my dreams have no base, but as of late, the world my dreams take place in seems to be the same. I recorded the dream in my first dream journal entry, and now I can remember most of the second-half. After doing some research on dreams, I found out about lucid dreaming, and decided to try it out for myself. I failed, and in fact, the dream I had wasn't even in my memory when I woke up today. I plan to keep trying until I get it. It seems my problem is that when I focus on my motif in the dream, such as to be aware that it is a dream, I can't go to sleep at all.

Greetings pinnacle and welcome to dreamviews!
Just keep practicing your recall and build that up for now.
What you may want to try is to say a mantra over and over again before you sleep, the reason it may have keeping you awake is because you might be concentration too hard. It might be a good idea to have 10 mins of saying our mantra and then just forget about everything, remember if your just going to bed your out of your REM cycle and it'll be difficult to WILD. Your work here doesn't start UNTILL your asleep so pound your mantra Into your head then do whatever you need to, to go to sleep =].
      Nito.

      Pinnacle, welcome to DV!

You should try to focus on the mantra without straining yourself or concentrating too much, and you should continue to relax yourself at the same time. Ultimately you want to have lucid dreaming as the last thing in your head before you fall asleep. I would suggest you keep up your dream journal and continue to build up your recall by noting down anything you remember, no matter how insignificant it may seem at the time. Also, I wouldn't keep the mindset of "failing" to have a lucid dream; rather, you should consider each attempt a step closer to actually having a lucid dream. If you stay motivated and also confident that you can do it, then you will eventually have one.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, or send me a private message .

Ah. Yes, I was straining myself to keep my mantra constant. Thanks for the advice, I'm about to try to lucid dream right now.

      Hey, welcome to DV. =D

Puffin's Beginner's Guide To Lucid Dreaming is a great place to start learning about lucid dreams. You should also browse the Tutorial section when you get the chance, it's full of information, tips, and in-depth guides. On top of that, you can also visit the DV Academy for further guidance - the DVA Professors will teach you everything you'll ever need to know about lucid dreaming.

You might also want to get into the habit of performing reality checks (maybe two or three) throughout your day, you'll eventually start doing them in dreams and become lucid. I usually count my fingers but feel free to look up other methods and see which works best for you. I'd also recommend keeping a dream journal; regularly recording your dreams is a great way to improve to improve recall and you'll be able to notice common themes and patterns which can further help you attain lucidity.

We also have an off-topic section as well where you can discuss anything from books, movies, tv shows, philosophy, current events, etc so be sure to visit that part of the forum as well. If you ever get bored or need to kill time, visit Senseless Banter. It's full of nonsensical threads like forum games and the SB frequenter's are a friendly bunch so feel free to drop in sometime. We also have an IRC Chat Server which can be found near the top of the forum index. 'tis lulz.

Also, you're always welcome to PM either no-Name or I if you'd like to see pictures of our tits.

I'm going to 'do' so again right about now. Oh, and about the breasts; I'm fine, thanks. By the way, I have a question. The dream scape; once you manage to gain self-awareness, do you gain control of your body or do you just watch what's happening?

Usually, it's all up to you. Everything from what you do, what other dream characters do or say, the dreamscape, temperature, lighting, etc is up to you. Sometimes you'll become lucid but won't be able to control what's going, it'll just be like watching a movie. If this happens, pay attention as it could mean your subconscious is trying to tell you something. This is especially true if you find yourself in this situation multiple times, each time in a similar dream.

Sorry, I'm finding it very hard for me to relax myself as I go to sleep with the intent of remembering my dreams, MILDing or WILDing. Is there a technique you guys use to calm yourself in order to get to sleep? My thoughts are overcrowding my head. I'll think, "I want to know I'm dreaming when I'm dreaming" then a few seconds later I'll think of something random and cut myself off.

Try slowly counting backwards from 100.

Don't worry too much about becoming lucid, a few reality checks during your day and repeating "I'm going to have a lucid dream tonight" a couple times should be enough to get the idea to stick.
