      Searching for answers...

Hello everyone, I've only just joined the forums today. I decided to do this after having my first lucid dream(s) in which I was able to fully control my actions for the full course of the dream. Never have I been able to do this, and after my experience this morning I'd like to know how to achieve this more often. So I come to this forum searching for answers, and I suppose the best way to get them is by adding my first Dream Journal entry into this post...

      "Dream Journal
      Entry #1

The date is June 27th, a Monday. I woke up this morning around 6am with only little memory of the dreams I had during the night, however I didn’t get out of bed, I instead lazed around on my couch ‘till about 7:30am. I put in some earphones and sort of slept on and off until about 9am when I achieved lucidity in two dreams, one followed directly by the other. The first dream was what I learned is called, a false-awakening. I awoke in my room just as I would any day, however upon leaving my room I found my home to be slightly different than it is in real life. It wasn’t any bigger or smaller, there were just small things such as the railings on the basement stairs, the exterior of the house and the yard that differed. Once I realized the difference, I started to observe the house and the way my family acted. It felt like an alternate universe after noticing some odd behavior in my family, but I deduced that I was most likely dreaming. I questioned this immediately by trying to change a simple object, an odd lemon shaped clock that seemed to appear from thin air. I assumed that since I was dreaming, I could change the clock into whatever I wanted, so I decided to change it into a star. I failed however, and my dream became unstable near to the point of waking me up. Instead of waking up, I found myself in new setting. A second dream, one in which I was sure that I was dreaming, and instead of questioning whether I was dreaming or not I decided to try to take control of my dream. The first big step was the fact that I was able to control my own actions fully, where I went and what I said. I had complete control over myself, thus making this the most lucid dream I’ve ever experienced. I don’t remember the dream as well as I did when I first woke up however I do remember the following events. Firstly, I ran into my cousin inside the dream and I tried to explain to her that we were in a dream. She argued that we weren’t but once she began to believe me she changed into a different person and kicked me off of the carriage we were riding in the school-like setting. Afterwards I walked down the hall and entered the nearest door which led to another hall that seemed as if it led to the boiler room. I followed it and found myself in an ominous looking area. I don’t remember if it was a boiler-room or a locker room, and the events that followed are a bit fuzzy. I remember seeing a cooler and some towels in the room, so its probably safe to say it was a locker room. From what I can remember, the school was seemingly some kind of hangout/night club for teenagers, and there was a garage like area in which the local teens would play video games in what appeared to be vanity mirrors placed on top of dressers. It was in this room that I realized it was nighttime, as I looked out the opening that a garage door would usually cover. There was a cul-de-sac outside, accompanied by a street pole. I interacted with someone in the room though I don’t know why, or what we discussed. I just remember that I woke up shortly after, possibly after trying to alter another object. I looked at the clock and it was 9:58am. I lay still thinking about what I had experienced until finally getting up from my couch to confirm that the dreams had ended. I did exactly as I did in the first dream, though this time everything was fairly normal."
Firstly, I'd like to know how I can achieve lucidity at will.
Secondly, I'm wondering if its possible to always have full control over myself and my environment and if so, how?
Lastly, both dreams seemed to end when I attempted to forcefully change something within my dream. Why did I fail in making these changes, and why did my dream become unstable upon my failure?

Hopefully, you guys will be able to provide some insight on these questions and will welcome me into your community =D

Hey there. For your first question I would advise you to go to the link in my signature.

For your second question, that depends on you. You will see that over time if you keep lucid dreaming you will gain more control. Personally I don't really control my dreams that much as I like to explore it the way it is.

      Hopefully this helps!

Wow, it's been quite awhile since I've posted on this forum. Anyways, It's wonderful to hear that you just had your first lucid dream! It really is the most amazing experience in the world.
      To answer your first question:

      1) To achieve lucidity you're going to have to realize that your environment is a dream environment (realize you're dreaming). This can be easy for some, and very difficult for others. I advise starting off with reality checks. Search around the site and you should find a guide to a plethora of them.

      To answer your second question:

      2) It is possible to have full control of your dream, once again it is easy for some and very difficult for others. You have to have the right mind set to manipulate your environment, or use a technique to make up for imagination. It's all in the mind, just think "I can do this" and don't exert too much energy into it. Make it an easy task. Instead of going "I want you to turn into X!" Think "Turn into X". The reason you were booted from your dream for manipulating objects is probably because you exerted too much concentration into it. A dream easily fades if you concentrate too much on one thing, you have to experience the dream as a whole. Start off with easy tasks and work your way up to object manipulation. Try flying, it took me 3 lucids to finally do that (I couldn't imagine myself just flying, but not that I have it's great).

I hope everything made sense... good luck on your lucid adventures!

Wow! Thanks for the advices guys! Now that I know what mistakes I made last time I should be able to dream a lot longer next time. Not to mention how much help SilverBullet's guide will be in inducing another dream. The last three times were accidents so I was a little afraid it would be a while before my next LD...With this guide it should be much sooner than later.

      Thanks again!
