      Hey all, Question about pain

Im new here, so heres a little intro:

My name is Ryan and I turned 18 yesterday. I live in Belgium and my favourite activities are martial arts and classical guitar.

Well the reason I ended up here is that Ive been wondering about alot of things since a couple of years (life questions, mind & power, AP, buddhism, religion, etc...).
Ive done some research on various subjects but mostly on martial arts philosophy. But there is this one thing that pops into my mind sometimes, my vague dreams. I never really bothered talking about my dreams, because everything I read about astral projection, lucid dreaming and such didnt convince me enough to keep me interested on the subject, I just let the dreams wander in my mind.

When I was a kid I used to dream ALOT, every night, and I loved it hehe. I can recall many dreams clearly and I remember many of them to be lucid dreams because I felt I could control them, I was aware of them. But the older I become the less I dream, I just fall asleep and wake up 2 secs later, noticing its alrdy 6 hours pass by. But sometimes I dream, rarely, not many of them are LDs, and I forget them easily, but those that are LDs are really painfull.

Like 1 "episode", I dream Im falling down somewhere, cant remember where or how, but Im falling... As I fall deeper I feel my teeth getting pulled out by something really really strong, its like someone is pulling my teeth at there fullest strenth but doesnt manage to get it out. It hurts like hell, this dreadfull pain is unbearable. While Im in this dream I tell myself: "Dont worry, its just your own hand pulling your teeth, stop doing that!" but I cant, and it becomes even worse, the pain reaches its highest point and I wake up. I check my mouth and theres nothing wrong, my hands were resting under my head, and I couldnt feel any sort of pain in my teeth, they are in perfect shape.
      I get this dream often.

Another dream is when I get this big bang. Im enjoying my dream, letting it all happen when all of a sudden everything EXPLODES, I see this black flash and I honestly hear this big explosion noise (dunno how to say this, its hard to explain) my eyes pop open right after the flash and then
I jump awake and my mind is clear, I feel I can take on the world + I have looads of energy.
      I only experienced this once.

for the last few months I cant recall any dreams, didnt have any or maybe just cant remember them. But Ive always wondered what those dreams were about, I mean did you people ever feel pain in your dreams?

Anywayz thx for reading this alrdy, much appreciated.

Hey there, and welcome to the forum.

Alot of people lose their ability to recall dreams and get lucid as they grow older, but you can easily get it back! Start a dream journal...and as soon as you wake up try to write down everything you remember from your dreams. It's best to set your alarm for 5 hours after you are going to sleep, b/c you will be in peak REM and if you wake up then you should have great recall that you can write down. You will find that the more aware you are the more you will begin to recall your dreams. I bet even just joining this site with "intention" will aid you in better recalling your dreams.

As far as the pain is concerned...I'm not really sure. You just have to keep telling yourself that it is ALL IN YOUR MIND. And that when you wake up...everything is fine. I used to force myself awake from my lucids b/c I would feel like my arm was dead and I thought that I must be laying on it weird and maybe stopping the blood flow...but when I would wake up, my arm was fine. You will learn that your mind will play some pretty interesting tricks on you. Anyway, I have learned to ignore it. I've even gone through a lucid dream before with an entire chunk of my head missing...but I just had to keep telling myself that my head was really fine. When I woke up I noticed that the chunk that felt like it was missing was the part that was laying on the pillow. ANYTHING can spark these weird sensations. Just learn to ignore them.

Good luck, and if you have any more questions feel free to ask me or any other Dream Guide (we're the ones in green with the stars under our names).

      Heyo!

First off welcome, hope u can find what u r looking for here!

Secondly, i know where u r coming from, i experience pain from dreams quite often. However, never during an LD. When i feel pain in my dreams they r very vivid & i often think it is real life. The pain is unbearable & lasts a li'll after i wake up. It is usually because i will feel a bullet enter my body w/intensity, or hitting the ground and breaking my bones, etc. So i'v never really felt pain such as u described when ur teeth were being pulled out. I do remember u saying this was during LD? So u were aware that it was only a dream right? if so next time it happens & u know it is a dream take control of it. That is what LD is all about. It isn't as easy as it sounds. For example i was extremely lucid last nite only i couldn't change the dream. It takes time & patience. Work on dream recall, etc. Hopefully these painful experiences will lessen.

Unfortunatly the reasons we experience pain in dreams is still questionable. It is believed it is just a chemicle reflex in the brain due to vivid experiences making it believable.

Hey, thx for the quick reply.

Maybe its to blame on the weak state of my mind, because as I said in my above post
\"Dont worry, its just your own hand pulling your teeth, stop doing that!\"[/b]
I was saying stuff like this to myself while I was in pain, I knew it couldnt be true but the pain became only worse and at some point I just had to wake up but I didnt.

I just remembered a dream I had when I was kid, tom and jerry where running around a room and sometimes I was tom and sometime I was a specator, then I remember tom wanting to eat a fish and suddenly I`m tom again, I notice im in my bed, as if Im awake, and I see the fish above my head and Im giving all my effort to take the fishing but it wont come in my hand, and I cant seem to get up I just keep lying down. Because I fail to get the fish my eyes close again and everything turns black. I seem to lose oxygen, I have trouble breathing. At some point I`m not breathing at all my mouth is closed and something is stuffing my nose. because I cant get any air in it. I start shaking my head and im nearly suffocating.
You can find some resemblance with my "teeth" dream but here, instead of letting the pain reach its peak, my mouth opens and I can breat, I wake up and I notice my hand was closing my nose.

I might try the Dream journal, I came up with a same sort of principal before. To wake up each morning and take quick notes of what happend and then after school wright the whole dream down in a story like form. But there are times where i dont dream for months so I easily forgot about this.

@girismyleader: with the teeth was lucid each time. I knew I had to take control over it because it wasnt exactly fun to have this pain, but I couldnt. It was just killing me.

I know how you feel when you talk about those painfull dreams, because those that arent lucid are the worst. fear comes along and makes it even more realistic. I remember a dream where my best friend is facing me with his back and as he turns around he grins at me with a sinister face, he then beats the living shit of me. Damn, Im telling ya dreams like those make you think twice before you need to go to sleep early.

I dreamt about a girl 2 days ago, not sure though. Im going to rest soon, so Ill check out if I dream =).

I've rarely experienced pain in my dreams, but it has happened a couple of times. It wasn't an intense pain at all though. Two months ago I dreamt that I was in a speedboat and it crashed and I was violently thrown out of the boat cuz of the crash. I then smashed through a wooden bridge and fell on the grass, bounced off the grass and landed on a road. The only part that hurt was the part where I landed on the asphalt road, but it wasn't really intense.

I think pain in dreams is quite similar to any other sensation you have in your dreams. If your mind knows what something smells like, it can reproduce that scent in your mind during your dream. If your mind knows what pain feels like, it can reproduce it in your teeth or your aching bones.

nver happened to me, but i think that is normal. after all pain is just a bunch of electric pulses, right? so, if you can feel joy on a dream, what keeps you from feeling pain? it must really be a pain in the ass to feel pain in a dream, but i don't think that is weird at all
I was looking for answers...and I didn't know the questions....

      Hey Ryan! Welcome to DV!

Now, I know there are posts around here about teeth, pain, and "old hag" (which sounds like something you've been experiencing). First off, "old hag" is something that happens during a dream where it feels like someone is over you and sucking the breath out of your or something like that. I've never experienced it, personally, but I know there's information here about it.

I haven't personally had that many experiences with pain in dreams, but have you tried stopping everything when the pain starts. When you feel your teeth start to hurt, just yell out "STOP!" and everything should come to a halt. The pain should be put on hold until you can decide what to do. These are your dreams and you have the ability to take control. Just don't panic when you start to feel pain. You can also just ignore it. Sometimes I've found myself going "Eh, oh well" and things go on as normal.

I hope this was helpful. If you need anything else feel free to ask. You can search for those posts, but if you can't find them just let me or one of the other DGs/moderatorss know and we'll help you out.
