Thread: Time Translation

Hey,

I was just curious, is there a universal "exchange rate" for dream time vs. real time? or does it vary from person to person? or maybe its based on ones state of mind. Just wondering if anybody could shed some light on the subject.

I'd say it depends entirely on the person. Some people are able to extend their ''dream time'' by hours, days (even months) in a single REM period.

I have no real experience with this but I've always thought of it like this:
The exchange rate varies a lot. I have no idea how one would be able to manipulate it but there's surely away. Just like time flies when you're having fun, and just barely goes by when you're bored. Human mind can sense 5 minutes as 1 minute when they're having a good time or as a hour when they're in intense pain, so why not do that in dreams. (Although the variables would be different)

I agree with this. In essence the human mind is 100% programmable - it just requires the knowledge on how to do it in the first place. Your sense of time is completely at your disposal, in theory.

I know Stephen LaBerge did a test on a LDer.

He told her to signal to them by looking left and right once she became lucid. Then they told her to count to 10 and look left and right again. It was roughly 10 seconds(dream time was the same as waking time).

When in non-lucid dreams with your logic center shut up, people will often see it go from daytime to nighttime. The brain with the logic center interprets this as a day going by. Sometimes the brain interprets months going by.

So from my experiences any lucid I had that felt like a long time was usually me going in and out of being lucid.

But like the others said. Your brain cant interpret time very funny even when your awake!

But I think if you did a study like LaBerge where your main goal was to find out how much time has gone by dream/day ratio. I believe you would get the same result he did.
If you go about not paying attention to time, Your answers would probably vary.
