My first attempt at WILD - success?

First a little background, this is my first post. I have always experienced low level lucid dreams with great frequency, a few times a week. But I always encounter obstacles to high level lucidity, mostly I get excited and wake up. I searched the net and found this site a few months ago. That night I had a Lucid Dream but again got excited and woke up. This happened a few more times so I gave up for a while. Anyway, this happened to me today:

I woke up at 6:30 AM after sleeping for about 7 hours. I got up and surfed the net for a bit and then remembered the Dream View site that I visited a few months ago. I read about Lucid Dreaming for a while and then came accross the WILD technique. I thought to myself: "I already have satisfied the conditions for attempting WILD (5-6 hours of sleep followed by 30 minutes of reading about Lucid Dreaming), so I might as well try it out." So I lay in my bed for what seemed like 90 minutes. I didn't see any HI or hear any sounds or anything so I bet that I lost consciousness before that part, but then suddenly I had a clear thought in my head that I was currently Lucid Dreaming and that the WILD technique had worked. So I tried to open my eyes only to find that this action seemed almost impossible, I glimpsed an alarm clock in the middle of my room and had an overwhelming desire to make a reality check and begin experiencing my Lucid Dream. But it was very difficult to rise from my bed, I felt tingling in my body and my head felt extremely heavy. With great effort I wrenched myself out of the bed, it felt like I was a spirit leaving my physical body behind. I wish I had turned to look at the bed after I got up, I think I might have seen my body there, oh well, next time I guess. I did an RC with my alarm clock, confirmed I was dreaming and jumped out my window to go explore my dream. I woke up pretty soon after doing some flying.

So I did not experience any of the HI or dream fragments that are supposed to come to you while falling into a dream state, but I did get an LD and it was weird because it was the first time I had an LD that was not a DILD. All of my other LDs came from me figuring out that I was dreaming during the dream. But this time the very FIRST thing that happened to me was a clear thought : "It worked, I am Lucid Dreaming". So was this WILD working for me in a unique way? I definately do not think I started dreaming first and then realized I was dreaming, I distinctly remember the beginning of the experience being my realization that the technique had worked.

It sounds like you either did, or did something extremely close to it. Did you lose conciousness during the transition? That is something that happens to me sometimes. I will be laying there, working on WILD and then will let my concentration wander for a few seconds, and then catch myself when I am in sleep paralysis. It sounds to me like you might have done this.

The results were the same though, entering into a lucid dream on purpose!
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

Yeah thats the best part, the result! I think Im a born natural for this stuff. Very first time reading about it I got an LD, and the very first time trying WILD and that worked too.

It wasnt exactly a WILD, you stumbled on some other method, that doesnt have a name yet.
I've experienced similar thoughts several times and they come to you when you are at a brink of entering a dream. I dont know for sure, but they might be a byproduct of enchanced awareness or just a "gift" from some part of your unconscious mind !

      Congratulations!

      Congrats on your first WILD
yes I fully believe that you WILDed not "some other method that hasn’t been named"
I have too entered a lucid dream via WILD without knowing it. usually I think it didn’t work and I go do something (i.e. go to use the restroom, go to turn on the light and it blows etc..) also I have never had blobs of color floating around in my vision, I do have pictures and voices randomly pop into my head though
~I wake up a little more every time I dream.

Thanks. I tried WILD again last night but this time I simply fell asleep. I did become Lucid during a dream as I was pouring cold water on my burnt skin that was black but surprisingly not painful. I didnt need to do a RC I was sure I was dreaming. I admired the old victorian mansion I found myself in and then stuck my finger through a plant just for fun. But then I was awoken by a door slamming in my house

Last night I dreamt that I was on the beach having fun when a series of huge waves chased everyone away from the water. People ran to escape but not everyone made it. Then today Im watching the Spurs and Pistons play in the NBA Finals when Komo 4 News cuts in and tells me there is a tsunami warning for the Pacific coast (where I live).
