Smile Just want to introduce myself :)

      Hi everyone,

My name is Asen (a.k.a. Openmind0306), I'm Bulgarian. I thought it will be a good idea to introduce myself since I plan to be an active member of this forum.

I'm going to tell you my story as briefly as I can, because it will help you understand the reasons why I'm joining this community.

I'm 20 years old, male. I worked for a couple of online gambling companies since i was 18 (currently still working as customer support with Italian and English for bwin.party). Basically i work to help my family and provide myself with all the things I need to get closer to my goals in life.

I'm an artistic and creative person, I like all kinds of art, but most of all Music. I prefer faster and more "heavy" genres, such as Metal, Punk, Rock, Drum and bass, Dubstep, but I also like Reggae, Jazz, Country and so on.

I have an acoustic, an electric and a bass guitar, which I use to play for fun and also to compose music. I also compose electronic music on my PC.

I also find video games to be one of the best art ever, since it's the only one that really makes you trip out of the regular world.

I heard about Lucid Dreaming from the book "Space of variations" written by Russian Physician Vadim Zeland (amazing, life changing book!). I then started to read materials on the internet regarding LD and I started practicing it a month ago.

I still haven't experienced a LD, but at least I can recall a dream every night, so I think I'm getting very close.

The reason why I want to master LD is pretty obvious. I think that it's the greatest source of inspiration and mental fulfillment I could ever find! It will help me stimulate my creativity, experience things I've always wanted to do, but cannot be done in the real world (society won't like it at all ). And of course, because it's a new experience and I'm entering a new world, so exciting, so unknown, surprising and at the same time creepy. In other means, explore, explore and explore it again.

PS: the forum and website are awesome! You have really done an amazing job!

      Hi there Openmind,
Welcome to DV!!! . I'm sure you'll have a fun time here. Anyways, it would be a good start if you improve your dream recall. So I suggest you take a look at the Dream Recall Tutorial. And in addition to this, try getting yourself a dream journal. It would come in handy to your part. If you do have some spare time, try going to the forum's chatroom to hangout with your fellow DV folks. hope this helps and if you got a question, feel free ask

I want to ask you a couple of questions. During my attempts to become lucid in a dream, i have experienced some strange things and I don't know what exactly they are and if they mean that I'm getting closer to LD.

1- During one of my attempts to LD, as I was lying in my bed, focusing my thoughts on having a LD, I suddenly realized that I was standing in the middle of my room, next to my PC. The strange thing is that EVERYTHING looked exactly like i left them before I went to bed, even the PC had the same song opened on Youtube. However, I was 100% sure that I was dreaming, because I didn't remember getting out of bed. So I was trying to make a reality check, but for some reason I could not do it, I was trying to open my eyes even though I could see. Then i got tired of trying to make a RC and went back to bed. In that exact moment, I woke up in the same position I went to bed in the dream.
Question is: was that a dream? Or was it an OBE? It felt really strange and when I woke up the first thing I thought was.... "WTF? What did just happen?"

2- A few days ago, I was trying again to LD, lying in bed focusing my thoughts on this exact intent. Suddenly I woke up (not sure if I was really sleeping though) by a really loud ringing sound, it really pissed me off. Then after 30 seconds I heard it again, even louder and longer. Since it was about 3AM and my roommate was still playing LOL in the living room, having a conference call with other players and yelling them instructions, I thought that my neighbors called the police again. I thought if they ring the bell again, I'm gonna get up and give them a piece of my mind. I'm usually a very peaceful person, but that sound made me SOOOO angry, maybe because I was very relaxed before hearing it.
The next day I asked my roommate why didn't he open the door the 1st time he heard the doorbell ringing. He said what are you talking about, nobody rang the bell yesterday. Then I found out that it was actually a Hypnagogic Hallucination.
Question is: Why did it happen? Is it something that should happen on a regular basis? Is it a good or a bad thing? Is it a sign that I'm getting closer to a LD?

      Thank you!

First of all welcome to DV! Its always nice to see a new face here!

Responding to your questions, Im going to be very general.
1- That never happened to me, generally in my dreams, the objects are not in the same place or they arent there at all. I Didnt understand how you couldnt do a Reality check. Try to close your nose and try to breathe through it. Thats the best RC for me and it never failed. It might be an OBE, but I really dont know, I will pass that to a more experienced Lucid dreamer

2- The sound that you heard its definetelly a Hypnagogic Hallucination. You were apparently trying a WILD. You heard the sound because you were about to enter sleep paralysis congrats But those things don't always happen (for me), it really depends. So it is a good thing since that when you enter sleep paralysis you can transition into a dream while remaining counscious. I think that you should do a little research on WILD and sleep paralysis.

If you are new to lucid dreaming and if you had those results already, I think that you can have lots of progress on lucid dreaming.

      Thanks Cardeal,

First of all, great avatar you have chosen

Regarding the reality check. During that dream or whatever it was, I was very confused because I didn't know what the hell was I doing in the middle of my room instead of being in my bed and trying to have a LD Also, I was feeling very strange. I felt like I was seeing thru my eyelids. I wanted to look at my hands and I knew that they were in front of me, but I could not see them clearly. That's why I was trying to open my eyes so that I could see clearly and only then perform the RC. I got tired of trying to open my eyes and went back to bed because honestly I thought that something was wrong. After getting back to bed I managed to open my eyes and in that exact moment I opened them for real and woke up.
