Hi, I'm new and want to introduce myself :)

Hi, I'm new here and thought I'd just like to introduce myself.
I'm a student studying computing and philosophy and I've had several lucid dreams.

One when I was little and I realised I was dreaming. I had almost full control over the dream and decided I would be a 9 year old spiderman and swing through the streets of new york, it was brilliant!

I then had one when I was about 15 but had almost no control over the dream and woke myself up as I was so frustrated.

My last one was about 6 months ago; I occasionally go into SP accidentally when trying to sleep, until I found out what SP was I was terrified as I had Hypnogogic hallucinations of a witch cackling and saying spells in my ear and an overwhelming felling of dread(until I was 15 I didn't know what SP was and so thought I was being haunted or something). I then found out about SP and that it is the final step before a lucid dream so when I was stuck in SP 6 months ago I remembered if I relaxed and rode with it I could get into a lucid dream which I did and was then immediately woken up by my rats having a particularly large fight :@.

I've been trying to lucid dream for about a week now and have been keeping my dream diary for almost three (I can now remember about a dream a night up from about 1 a week). I haven't had any success with lucid dreaming yet though (am doing RCs and MILD)

I have some questions I thought you might be able to answer(I'm sure they'll have been asked before but i thought since i was introducing myself i might as well ask anyway)?

First a specific question: I have heard you can WILD without the WBTB method but it is difficult, how hard is it? Does it get easier with practice?

Now some questions for everyone to answer!:

      1. How long have you been trying to lucid dream?
      2. Have you had any lucid dreams?
      3. How long did it take you to have your first lucid dream(since you started actively trying)?
      4. How many lucid dreams do you have on average a week?
5.What is your most successful lucid dreaming technique?

Thanks for answering and sorry for the long post!

Hello and Welcome to Dreamviews! WILDing before sleep can be very difficult for most dreamers. It often takes a long time to enter SP (in my experience it takes me about 1.5-2.0 hours). If you don't want to use WBTB you can always try WILDing during a nap. They tend to be easiest 1-6 hours after waking in the morning. Most of my WILDs are naps and I have a fairly easy time with them. WILDing does get easier with experience because you learn what works well for you and what tends to cause you to fail the attempt. There seem to be some dreamers who can WILD before sleep with moderate success, but the REM period at the beginning of sleep is much shorter than later on in the sleep cycle. So even if you do succeed it may not last more than a few minutes.

1 - I have been actively lucid dreaming for exactly a year now. I joined DreamViews in November 2008, and that was when I started practicing LDing.

2 - I currently have 129 recorded lucids, but I have actually had closer to 150 total.

3 - I was one of the lucky ones I guess. I actually had my first LD on the first night trying. Usually it takes a little while to have your first lucid, so don't get discouraged. Once you begin to have them, they tend to come in bunches .

4 - I have about 20 lucid dreams a month, so somewhere around 5 per week.

5 - I have gotten very comfortable with WILDing and when I have time to attempt WILDs, I rarely fail. Most of my DILDs happen at random. I have also gotten into the habit recently of chaining LDs with DEILD. WILD/DEILD are my best and favorite methods.

Good Luck in your future efforts and just keep working at it!

I welcome you to our community

Tip: Just remember when you're finished recording each entry in your diary, pick out what was dream like about it. Something that could have told you that you are dreaming (flying elephants). Also if there is a recurring detail, make sure to point that out. In the future, this should help you figure out what is wrong with your dreams while in the process, therefor you will be like "flying elephants? Not again! I must be dreaming"

      To answer your questions:
      1. How long have you been trying to lucid dream?
-I started back in Sep of 2004 but quit like a month later because the log in was screwed up but about a year ago I decided I really wanted to try again.

      2. Have you had any lucid dreams?
-Yes, about 57 since last year.

      3. How long did it take you to have your first lucid dream(since you started actively trying)?
-I had mine the 2nd night of practice. Like KingYoshi, I think it was just beginners luck.

      4. How many lucid dreams do you have on average a week?
-Well I usually have around 3-4 a month so I would say on average about once a week or less.

5.What is your most successful lucid dreaming technique?
-DILD. I know, boring. But WILDs and DEILDs are fun as well.
