Thread: Question from a Newbie

First of all, I want to say that I am glad to finally have gotten the nerve to making an account on here. I’m not usually the type to jump off my proverbial fence of on-looking and join a community of such enormous depth. But it’s getting to the point where my subconscious finds the subject of dreaming everywhere in my everyday life; the topic of “lucid dreaming” having only popped up a few months ago.

Second I would like to note that if this has been answered some other place, please refer me to that. I really don’t want to clutter up bandwidth with an overused question.

Finally, I’ll get down to the point. I want to know if I actually had a lucid dream two nights ago. In any of my usual non-custom dreams I fade into the setting half-way through the story; the same happened this time. We were having a party at our three-floored house (presumably reflective on the Christmas party we had last December) with the usual non-existent animals and people. Cats upon cats that we don’t actually have, but those are reoccurring objects. At this point, I’m not exactly sure if I’m aware or not, but I have a feeling that the notion is sinking in. Someone asks me to grab something from upstairs- now is when the semi-unusual things happen. The setting changes, now I’m in a house that existed in an old horror-dream of mine. The hallways, the doors, the darkness. The simple memory of the fear that the nightmare caused me to finally understand that I’m dreaming. I get lost, more stairs are where I just was, the maze of a house is growing- yet I can still hear and see the festivities downstairs. Just like how it started in the horror-dream! I stop. ‘If I’m dreaming, why don’t I just build a stairway to the main floor? Shouldn’t it be that easy?’ And I did. Yay, all is daisy chains and sunshine. I wake up and have a nice day to follow a nice night.

It all sounds fine and dandy, another LD bites the dust! But then I think it over again; don’t people normally have trouble shaping their dreamscape? Doesn’t it take time to learn how to hold the world in the dreamer’s hands? How did I do it so easily? And now I wonder if I was having an LD or if I was awake and still dreaming? Those don’t count as lucid dreams to me, because I have a very active every-day imagination. I can lie down, close my eyes, be awake, and day dream all day long; seems like a sleep-dream, but it isn’t because I haven’t punctures my subconscious. And that, I know, is normal.

So I wonder, can I put another lipstick dash on my mirror, or was it not a lucid dream? Can anyone help clarify this to me?
