Certainly keep up with the DJ- without it, any other efforts you do as a beginner are effectively halved. If it get's to the point where it is a chore, then take a break for 2 days. Then go back to it. Never break for more than 2 days. I could say never take a break for more than 3, or more than 1, or whatever, but I find that if you at least set yourself a number of days, and stick to it, then your good. Don't just take a break indefinitely- you will end up never getting back into it.
On a positive note, 1 dream in your first week is good, especially if you went from none beforehand. I personally never dreamed, then on my first night had one, then it went up and up from there... but no lucids, or any that are really mentionable. I guess we all excel at different aspects to this whole thing.
Don't give up if lucids are slow to come. It takes some people a few weeks, some months, others days. It took me about 6 months before I had literally a second long one, which you would think I would have been happy to have finally had one. But I just sat up in bed, and didn't even bother shrugging at the lousy excuse for a lucid it was. This hasn't gone well for me, lucid dreaming is very hard for me. (inb4 anyone coming along saying "Don't say it's had, if you believe it's hard then it is, when it really isn't trololololo".)
Just stick at it and you should get somewhere soon.
