Post Very new need help please

So now that i think of it, i have had a lucid dream i just didn't know it was, i recall flying around in my backyard

Anyways im short on time here so i'll get to the point...

I have just now started getting into Lucidity and trying to become lucid, i have been once that one time but that was almost last year.
I would like a whole bunch of newbie tips, i soo far have had 2 nights of keeping a DJ (just got one) and im very anxious to lucid dream, i do reality checks every hour or 30 minutes or so. heres what i do

Each morning i draw an "L" on my hand and
Every time i see an L on my hand i:
Look at my watch see the time
Plug my nose seeing if i can breathe
Try pushing myfingers thru my palm
Then look back at my watch

i am very avid about this... Tips please? THANK you!

      Firstly, to dream views!

Here are the tips that I have:

      1. You need to ditch your current method. Because it relies on seeing that "L" on your hand in a dream. So if your subconscious doesn't put that on your hand you won't become lucid.

      2. You should take a look at the beginner guide for lucid dreaming. It is stickied on the newbie forum page.

      3. Another thing you should look at is puffins SAT guide. It is somewhere in the wiki. If you can't find it then message me and I'll send you a link. (I'm running behind right now).

      4. A technique I use is MILD. Its great for beginners so look for tutorials on that.

Thank you Oneiron, in fact i try and use the SAT guide
Puffins explained that using awareness is key, well if i use awareness with RC's it seems they will carry over into my dream? is that how it works?
Also, in my dreams i have no control over ANY of my actions, so i cant verbally tell myself im dreaming or physically move on my own will

Awareness can be several things. Imagine it as another version of yourself standing a few millimeters behind your should. You may be engaged in an interesting conversation, but deep there, that "other" version of yourself knows what you are doing. In some way, like you would drink alcohol but keep an eye on what you're doing in order to prevent getting drunk. Awareness can also be the fact that you know that you're not the center of the universe. Like when your playing football and you're aware that you're not the only player in the field. You keep in your mind the fact that another player might strike and you keep that thought present. The more time it's present, the better.

About dream control, it has nothing to do with becoming lucid. Control is one thing, lucidity is other. When you become lucid is more like a epiphany (a mental burst) than saying "hey man, I'm dreaming". But this can happen really fast, so the most likely is you'll end up finding yourself lucid and then the excitement will come. Also, it's normal that your first lucids aren't that complex, or filled with lucidity. The more you practice, the better you'll be able to think with logic inside a dream.

So tips: work on your recall! Maybe you had more a long lucid and you only remember the flying part Secondly, you're doing it the opposite way. You want to use SEVERAL things in the waking life to perform a reality check. Not using only one thing to perform several reality checks. Try to visualize yourself getting lucid, doing something you really want like flying or creating fireballs

Yes, awareness, RCs and mantras will carry over to your dreams. You don't need to have control of your actions to realize you dreaming. It just happens. After you realize you dreaming, RC is sometimes automatic (it was for me) and once you lucid, most offen you are in some control to RC.

Ohhhh i see now, and its regular to not have my first intentional lucid for about a month? thats normal right?
So heres my to do list:
      1. Recall more dreams and put them in my DJ
      2. Find several dream signs for RC'ing
      3. Get in a good habit of doing so
      4. During RC's try and visualize everything in 3rd person view (?)
And after i get all that in a good routine can i expect to have a lucid? or maybe even during the practice?

Oh yes, totally normal. It's not X person is more skilled than Y person, there are way many factors that come into play. Lucid dreaming is taking the other way. Waking yourself inside a dream it's not that common as you know. You're changing your mental schemas, ways to see reality which have been kept with you for years. Now imagine the effort that it is to the brain to simply accept something like "I could dreaming right now". The brain itself fights against you in order to make you loose lucidity, it won't be unusual if in some lucids you just forget that you're dreaming and drift away into a normal non-lucid dream again

Ya totally, you can become lucid at any point, you just need to stick with your goals. I remember being so excited as you were and had a 2 lucids in the first and second night of practice Visualize yourself. You can use 3rd person view but define it as you. I will look into my hands, I will become suspicious, I will become lucid.

      So wat ur saying here,
Waking yourself inside a dream it's not that common as you know. You're changing your mental schemas, ways to see reality which have been kept with you for years. Now imagine the effort that it is to the brain to simply accept something like "I could dreaming right now". Would mean at my younger age it will be a better quicker start? and is there any disadvantages for being my age?

      Also,
You can use 3rd person view but define it as you. I will look into my hands, I will become suspicious, I will become lucid.
Would saying it more be the better? repeating that mantra say 50 times would increase the chance? or would saying it maybe 10 times with putting good thought into it be better?

      >.< how many RC's do YOU do a day?
