      I'm new, quick question

Hi i'm new here, my name is Finch. I was wondering if having music on while going to sleep affects you ability to have lucid dreams. I listen to Jack Johnson now when I sleep, he isn't hard or anything for those who don't know him but the songs do have a beat and he does sing in them.

Hey Finch, welcome to the board!
With regard to your question, i had exactly the same question a couple of months back, in thinking it might help my lucidity.
I've tried listening to many different styles of music before falling asleep...but i can honestly say that it hasn't really affected my dreams in any way, and it certainly hasn't improved my lucidity.
The main benefit i've found is that listening to relaxing music simply helps me put my mind to rest, therefore making the transition from waking to sleep quicker and smoother.
I've written a tutorial on sleep paralysis, in which i used a relaxing cd to help me reach that deeper level of consciousness, and i did get some good images, and had a short lucid conversation with a dream character, that i decided to summon.
      Hope this helps you out!
Oh yeah, and rock music won't do it...or at least, it doesn't do it for me...it fires my brain back up again, so no Queen for me!

Hey Finch, Welcome to Dream Views!!

irishcream started a good topic on this a while back. A lot of members contributed their experiences with respect to listening to music before going to sleep. I think you'll find it interesting: Listening to music before going to sleep

      Helping a lucid dream happen...

A lot of my dreams have been about my past. Ive often noticed that having music on that i listened to as younger child, it helps bring back old memories, which I then fall asleep to and dream about! Anyone else realize this?

I can't say this has ever happened to me...i think if it did, it would be a great tool for a reality check, in order to enter lucidity...

And by the way OB, thanks for posting that link, i would never have found it!

      First of all, WELCOME Finch!

Secondly, I belive that music could possibly act as a placebo for lucid dremaing, but has no real effect on it. Personaly, I dont listen to music when I go to sleep, beacse it keeps me up. Perhaps you should start an experiment in the Research page... It would be interesting to see the results
