Any tips to a new member?

      Hello,

first off all I'd like to say that I was very exited when I discovered this website yesterday. I have felt so alone with my experiences. So hopefully I will learn a lot of usefull things here

I have so many questions. I've tried to explore the world of lucidity (on and off) for a while. Never put so much effort in it, so I dont know a lot about the different techniques.

However, now I feel like I've hit a wall in my development. Basically my problem is that I don't achieve maximum lucidity during the dreams. It feels like being drunk, and suddenly I'm not lucid anymore. What should I do to gain more lucidity?

My lucidity usually starts with what appears to be the beginning of an OBE. I suddenly wake up in bed during the night and know that my body is asleep. Sometimes it continues as an OBE, but if I hear the presence of "someone" I flee back into my body and continue in dreamland instead. And then I'm able to realize that I'm dreaming and obtain lucidity at some extent.

So, could some of you give me tips for further development?

Oh, and one more question; are there any active and usefull forums about OBE's or is this the place to be regarding that too?

      Thanks for reading!

      Welcome to DreamViews!
I was also excited when I learned that there is a whole community dedicated to this topic

There are plenty of ways to regain control of a lucid dream. One way is to focus on something, like your hand or another object nearby. Just focus in on it, but remind yourself that you are still dreaming. Another way is to spin... like The Mask. Feeling objects is another way, such as picking up a rock and feeling it.

I've found that these really help me tune into the dream. Sometimes it will be almost real, but I know it's a dream.

We do have a separate part of the forum for stuff like OBE's here: Beyond Dreaming
But if you find that your conversations are being derailed by skeptics, you can always ask for permission to the Deep Dreamers section.

Thank you for the suggestion. Spinning may seem like the best solution for me. What happens when you focus on an object? Because I have seen objects with a lot of detail in some of my LD's, but sadly this has not lead me to a greater extent of conciousness. When I see all the details I'm just amazed and forget all about my goal (remaining lucid).
Deep dreamers seems like a place for me. I'll check it out.

Hi there Caryatis, welcome to Dreamviews!
In regards to your first question, upon becoming lucid it is recommend your perform a reality check. A reality check is often something that defies the laws of physics and can only be done in dreams; as the name suggests, use it to check your reality. Now that you have confirmed you are dreaming, it is also recommended you steer away from the "dream plot" as it will often (as you have experienced) will take away your lucidity. Experienced lucid dreams like to combat this by
      a) teleporting away from the dream scene
      b) fly away from the given dream scene
      c) explore the given dream scene in a different location - i.e. if you start off the in your own bedroom, explore your house, it may be different. If that does not interest you, fly away!
There are many other various things you can do, these are just a few suggestions.
Unfortunately, i'm not very experienced in OBEs at all but hopefully someone else at this forum can help you out If you have any questions about lucid dreaming, don't hesitate to PM me or post on the boards ^__^ Welcome again.

Oh, there you go! Only a few hours have passed since I posted and I already have a few things I would like to try tonight (hopefully). Teleporting might be what I'm looking for in terms of remaining lucid, especially since I tend to enjoy the dream and forget about my personal mission. Thanks!

      Glad we could help

Focusing on objects... I'm not sure how it works or how to describe it, but it increases awareness and everything becomes more vivid, and it can feel like you are actually (physically) there.

As louie mentioned, focus on items are great, but perhaps focus on a task would be good also- it has helped me maintain lucidity a few times. Keep in mind that there is a balance of how much focus should be applied to on specific thing as too much focus can cause the dream to collapse.
