      What was this?

Ive just recently discovered all this lucid dreaming stuff and its pretty cool. I saw that movie "Waking Life" and it really got me interested in it all so im gonna start keeping a dream jorunal in hoping of getting lucid

But about 3 months ago, i had to get my wisdom teeth out in the hospital, so they had to put me sleep with the needle. When they put me out, i think i was asleep for maybe an hour but in that entire time, i didnt dream and everything was black but in the back of my mind i knew that I existed and that I was just there. Its hard to explain though, but I never really thought of it untill now when i started getting into dreaming and lucid dreaming

Well, maybe you had some kind of non-dream-lucid-dream?
      Or something.

I think I have an idea of what you mentio. Seeing as you were "put out" or perhaps in a state of having temporarily "overcome all pain" Does this kinda describe it Mastervamp?:
A quote of part of the Prajnaparamita:
"The Bodhisattva Avalokita, while moving in the deep course of the Perfect Wisdom, shed light on the five aggregates and found them equally empty. After this penetration, he overcame all pain.

"Listen, Sariputra, form is emptiness, emptiness is form, form does not differ from emptiness, emptiness does not differ from form. The same thing is true with feeling, perception, mental functioning, and consciousness.

"Here, Sariputra, all dharmas are marked with emptiness; they are neither produced nor destroyed, neither defiled nor immaculate, neither increasing nor decreasing. Therefore, in emptiness there is neither form, nor feeling, nor perception, nor mental functioning, nor consciousness; no eye, or ear, or nose, or tongue, or body, or mind; no form, no sound, no smell elements (from sight to mind-consciousness), no interdependent origins (from ignorance to death and decay), no extinction of death and decay, no suffering, no origination of suffering, no extinction, no path, no wisdom, no attainment..."

      Something like that maybe?

I'm afraid i can't reallly help you on that, because i've never experienced it, but welcome to the board anyhow!
Good luck with improving your recall, and hopefully you'll have a lucid dream soon!

There are different stages of sleep. Not all sleep is dream sleep. Most drug induced sleep seems to have little if any dream content. Most dreams occur when a drug wears off. You had a state of self-awareness wile not in dream sleep. Self-awareness is actually the goal I think we strive for in all states of consciousness
