      Drugs, Man!

      Probably not what you're thinking...

Has anyone noticed whether drugs such as alcohol, nicotine, caffeine or chocolate affect their ability to either recall dreams, or achieve a lucid state? I know caffeine is recommended to help with WILDing, but what about if you drink a lot of it during the day?

      Beer

I don't know if it will make you not recall your dreams good enough. I'm kind of new at this sort of thing. I know the other day I drank before I went to sleep. I had a dream that I got a 3 foot tall bottle of some kind of beer I've never had before. I drank it, and I jumped for some reason and I started bouncing off of the ground. Never had that happen before. [/img]

Drinking alcohol does affect concentration, even in sleep. Even dreams become hard to remember.

Alcohol almost always affects my dreaming, especially my lucid dreaming.

I will have vivid dreams after a few drinks, but they are almost always non-lucid. The few lucid dreams I HAVE had after a glass or two tend to be of lower quality, fuzzy and difficult to control.

As to other drugs, I don't do them.

I don't think that this site really condones drug use.
However, I think that if a person wants to recreationally use drugs, it is their business and should not be judged for it. As long as a person reamains responsible and supportive of their family and loved ones and does not allow their drug use to cause life damaging consequences, then there is no reason to look down on someone for using drugs.
      Back to the point,
I have used a specifc ethno-botanical that resulted in a several hour lucid dream.
But, most would just say that it was a psychosymantec state of mind introduced by a psychoactive compound.

I have found taking Advil cold and sinus really effects my dreaming. Mainly the falling asleep part. I took two, due to sever sinus pressure, and found my self half asleep for hours at a time with full awareness that my dream world and reality were seperate but co existing. Interesting feeling.

As for lucidity, I did not become lucid that night, and my sleep was of low quality (may be because I was still sick.)

Also if you take magic mushrooms before you sleep, your dreams become hallucinagenic(sp), thus more easier to see dream signs. How ever your still intoxicated while lucid. This I would not recomend, because there is absolutely no difference between being lucid in this state, and just being awake. Also mushrooms arent something I'd condone doing very often.

I have trazodone for when i need those long deep healing sleeps. Generally no dreams can be recalled when using it.

      I love my coffee.

A cup of the Ol' Brown Java is not just something I drink in the morning to get my brain in gear. I don't drink it every day, but when I do it's an indulgence, something to take time over and appreciate. And on those days that I do, I tend to drink rather a lot of it.

Since I've been focusing more on lucid dreaming, I've noticed that I find my dream recall is awful if I've had a lot of coffee during the day. I mean AWFUL. Usually I can wake up and I'll remember anything from one to five dreams a night, but the day after a high caffeine day - nothing.

I posted this thread initially because I was wondering if anyone else noticed similar effects, either with caffeine, or any other kind of chocolate. (Yeah, okay, I should have made that clear from the beginning, but I wanted to leave the question more open ended).

      Classifications.
Marijuanna, alcohol, muscle relaxents and drugs to be considered as depressants effect your general recall during your conscious, waking state . Let alone your sleeping state.
Stimulants on the other hand, Chocolate, caffiene, etc....provided you can get to sleep, have at times been noted to help stimulate the subconscious into activity while dreaming.

I drink abit, and i always swore i could never remember a dream after drinking in the morning, cause i never before have. I always tried to think past the hangover the next morning. However, last sunday I had another party and had a good amount, and woke up at 8 the next morning with 2 dreams and a headache fresh in my mind. I have forgotten one since, because i only woke up to call out of work, but the other one is vivid and fresh in my journal.

I dont know of any "common" drug that influences your ability to LD in a good way.

There's a bunch of supplements that influence your mind, thus influencing your dreams. For example 5HTP, DMAE, Gingko Biloba, St. John's Wort, melatonin and vitamin B6.
I used to play a lot with these supplements and achieved some trippy dreams On the downside, DMAE and Gingko made me feel stupid for a few days after I stopped taking them.
