      Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily......

When dreaming, such may be evident and proven, yet never is the case when "awake".

      I Shall Return.

      BE LOVE.

I think i've worked out what he means...i think it's about how, when you're dreaming, you can accept pretty much anything...like, a pink flying car will appear, and you'll be like 'oh look, a pink flying car'
whereas if you saw that in real life, you'd either a) think you'd lost your marbles, or B) be calling the most local newspaper and taking pictures!!

Very thought provoking though, for sure! Welcome to the board!
Could you tell me what the words under your username mean? They look egyptian...

'all of the moments that already passed/
try to go back and make them last.'

      Abriefintro

Good day fair ladies! (who have posted) & gents. (who have yet to post)
I am Lord Byron, aka Byron J. Barr I, Born in the USA in Tennessee, yet I reside in South Carolina. I am a recent graduate of Winthrop University where I majored in Religion & Philosophy....more later..........okay...it's later! The meaning of "Kal-El-Kakarot" is:
"Kal-El" is the birth name of Superman, given on his home planet Krypton before it was destroyed and he came to Earth.
"Kakarot" is th birth name of Son Goku (Dragon Ball series), given on his home planet Vegeta, before it was destroyed and he came to Earth.
These are two of my favorite, and two of the most powerful characters of the world fantasy, and tremendous inspirations to me in "waking life", but even far more so in the astral realm.
An aspect of both is evident in my avatar...Kakarot in flight, with the "S" symbol of Kal-El behind him.

The basic meaning behind my premier entry is thus: ("irishcream" you were almost exactly on point) When you are dreaming, at any given point, it may become clear and obvious to you that you are immersed in the state of dreaming. However, at this exact moment in your "waking state" I challenge you to prove to yourself that you are indeed not "asleep" and dreaming.

...Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.....

The uncannily ironic thing is that I stumbled across this site yesterday, and decided to explore, and then to become a member. Then when I went to "sleep" last night.................. I went lucid for the first time in months & months!!!!!! Hella-exciting!!! The second best experience of controlled flight ever! It still was kinda hard to dodge those Nerf darts everyone was blastin' @ me though!

I have a question to pose, which is pretty much directly related to my first post.....

Why is it that when we behold something within the "dream state" which is so outrageous, and could never possibly occur according to the laws of physics & reality in "waking life", it does not always become directly, immediately obvious that "Hey, this couldn't possibly happen, this can't be real, I have GOT to be dreaming?"

      HMMMMMMMM.........
      BE LOVE.

I think that if anyone knew the answer to that, they would hold the ultimate key to lucid dreaming.

Welcome welcome!! I like this introduction much better. That's great that you had a lucid, you know the same thing happened to me when I first joined (oh my almost a year ago!). I think that just joining the forum with the intention of lucid dreaming sets forth something extremely powerful and registers deep within your mind. I think I had lucids for 4 days straight after I joined DV!

As to your question...I read (somewhere on this site) that the reason we are unable to realize we are dreaming so easily is because while we are sleeping or dreaming (and I may not have this completely right so don't quote me but you get the gist of it) some of the areas in our brains that control logic and reasoning are turned off or less active or something. So when we dream we are unable to register things as out of the ordinary because our brains are just thinking differently. Of course you can overcome this (I know I have many times) and have a DILD or Dream Induced Lucid Dream as a result of seeing a dream sign or witnessing something that you know is just not possible.

      Life is but a dream....

      I like this:
"The first thing you should do is train yourself to be on the alert for dream signs during the waking hours. Why during the waking hours, you ask? Well, quite simply, you need to bring yourself into the habit of questioning the world around you and looking for anything out of the ordinary. This reconditioning of your acceptance of the world around you will hopefully not be constrained within the waking hours alone, but should follow you into the dream world as well. Thus, if you start scrutinizing the world while awake, you’ll probably begin the same practice while asleep. Whenever something strange (or slightly out of the ordinary) happens, don’t simply dismiss it. Stop and really think about what happened and decide whether or not it was possible. Obviously the answer must be “yes” if you’re awake, but again the idea is to get in the habit of questioning the world around you so that you’ll do so while dreaming"

A paragraph from this site on learning to recognize the dream state.

BTW...speaking of "waking life", have any of you seen the movie by that title?
      BE LOVE.

Great paragraph...but yeah that just explains why we must do reality checks on a consistent basis throughout the day. Most people learning to LD do them many times a day, however I typically don't do them anymore. I just like to stop myself alot when I notice that I am sort of zoned out and inside my mind and less aware of my surroundings and make it a point to be more "in the moment". I've learned that this helps me to be more aware in my dreams and allow me the chance to recognize a dream sign or notice something unusual and become lucid.

And I haven't seen the movie but if you check out the Entertainment forum or do a search for "waking life" you will find alot of people who have seen it.

I've seen it and I think its a great movie, what do you think about it?

Regarding the paragraph, I think its very good, I try to do that all the time, but its really tough since my daily routine demands pretty much all of my attention all day, so its even harder to focus on remaining alert.

Ahh... A question pose I, to whosoever may reply......

Have any of you ever had a prophetic/clairvoyant dream ...lucid or non-lucid?

      If so please share!!!

      About practising doing reality checks:
It would most likely be a good idea to practise it during waking life, when something odd happens. But why not do an RC when everything seems normal? Because usually you'll "accept" just about everything in dream, but if you train yourself to do RCs radomly you might just do it in your dream for no real reason.

      No prophetic dreams here.
