It's always difficult to say for sure what we're seeing, but my green energy vortex was something that I encountered after actually getting out of bed. (All within a false awakening, mind you.) So in my case this was definitely a dream.
For you it's tougher to say, particularly since you felt that you were stuck in bed! Like most dream enthusiasts, I've experienced a great deal of hypnagogic imagery, or what you might describe as "half-dreams". When performing a WILD (or Wake-induced Lucid Dream), I passively watch this imagery. It typically begins as the occasional shape or abstract scene, and things gradually grow more realistic and concrete. At some point I find myself looking at a scene that I feel ready to "enter". Usually this involves imagining touching some part of the dream scenery or otherwise moving a dream body.
You may have experienced this transition where hypnagogic imagery gradually becomes a true dream. Tough to ever say for sure, but it's fun to speculate! As you do more dream practices, you'll get to know how your personal dream life is structured and what your sleep transitions are like. It's cool stuff.
