Sleep Paralisys - What EXACTLY is it?

Hey, this is like my second topic in 10 minutes! Anyway, one night I woke up sometime and my whole body was 'asleep' like your hand falls asleep, you know? My whole body was like that. I couldn't really move, but paralisys never came to my mind. Instead, my arms sort of felt like jelly or an arm with no bone. It didn't hurt - it wasn't even that uncomfortable - just strange.

Then I hear about people who have sleep paralisys - is that what it is? Just your whole body tingling? After 5 minutes or so, I could move, it wasn't very scary, but strange. People haven't described it really well... so maybe I've experienced it before. Please tell me more!

Also... I'm pretty sure but not entirely sure - is DC Dream Character or something? Thanks.

      hi, welcome to the board!!

Okay, sleep paralysis is when the mind is conscious, but the body is asleep. It's like a safety mechanism put in by the brain, to stop you 'acting out' your dreams.
I've written a tutorial on it, perhaps you'd like to check it out? here's the link: http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15630

And yes, you are correct, DC stands for dream character. Which is basically a person that appears in your dreams...to me, i've taken it to mean someone that appears on a regular basis.

My mom and I have this occasionially, but I can never move my arms (it feels normal I guess, not 'boneless' like you said ). It's wierd. I'm always afraid I'm gonna have to scratch and can't do it. *Nightmare*

my sleep paralysis, when it happens, is very very very unconfortable to me, but not as bad lately.

I suddenly become aware. all I can hear is a loud, very loud, rushing sound in my ears. I can't move at all. I want to, but cannot. It seems to last an eternity. I then think and concentrate on moving, or trying to yell for help. Nothing works. Then I will put all my thought into lifting my arm. Sometime I wake up, think its a dream, and then fall back asleep, and this same thing repeats until I turn onto my side and fall back asleep.

But here is the twist, i haven't read your link yet irishcream, but i will when i finish this post. Sometimes my arm moves. Im positive of this. It takes nearly all my brain thought power whatever, but I can lift it and lower it, and remain in sp. Though, is it really sleep paralysis now that I can move? this has only happened a handful of times, but its there.
