Lucid dreaming once you become good at it will actually be much less scary than non-lucid dreaming because in a non-lucid dream you are not in control and cannot consciously change things, plus in a non-lucid dream you don't realize that it is just a dream and thus nothing to be afraid of. Mind you not in all lucid dreams will you have enough control or awareness probably - although there is no reason not to have control and awareness in most dreams if one really wants to, puts in the effort and expects it. I remember when I was a proficient lucid dreamer before (I am now returning to the hobby and relearning this neat skill), but when I was good at it, I was no longer afraid of nightmares but actually looked forward to them because they were an opportunity for an empowering experience in which I would befriend or overcome what I had feared. Lucid dreaming is awesome.
Your term "wake dreaming" does not sound right to me: one is fully asleep and this is the world of dreams of one's own mind's creation, not the real world. I would instead say that lucid dreaming is "conscious dreaming": you are dreaming but you are conscious - your subconscious will likely still provide you surprises, but part of you will be conscious.
