      New Newbie

      Hi all!

I've already dived in and posted in the Dream Interpretations folder (not sure if I'm allowed to link my own threads?)

      A bit of background:

I've never consciously been aware of being a lucid dreamer, but recently have found myself "waking up" within my dreams more frequently.

      Earliest dream memories:
When I was under 8 I used to dream quite a lot of being under water and not being able to breath. I would eventually reach a point where I had to drag in a lungful of dream-water, would be shocked I could actually breath and would wake up.

Another time I had a dream that I was falling. I physically felt like I'd landed in bed from quite a few feet up, and woke up straight away.

      Recent dream memories:

Recently I've discovered that water seems like link me to other dreams, or back to waking life.

Last night I dreamt I had been sitting on the bottom of a pool for some time and decided it was about time to come up for air. About halfway to the top I realised it was a dream and I didn't need to breath air. I promptly forgot about this thought and wondered at how long it was taking to get to the surface, and that I'd need to take a breath soon. The top of the water was hard to pierce...but when I finally surfaced I started waking up (you know how it is, first feeling, then hearing, finally creaking the eyes open before the cat slaps you in the face for breakfast)

Previous recent water dream: I was walking along a beach discussing something with someone. I suddenly decided that it was a boring conversation, and jumped into the ocean. As the water closed over my head I thought "if this isn't a dream, I'm in trouble". Thought fled. Dreams continued.

There are odd moments when I realise I'm dreaming, but I usually wake up as soon as I notice.

Earlier this year I dreamed I was in England. I had no idea how I got there, but decided to jump in a cab. I was watching out the window of the cab and was thinking how beautiful and clear the image out the window was, when I realised it was a dream. I tried to keep staring at the sharp images out the window, trying not to open my real eyes because I wanted to hang on to the sensation. I woke up soon after.

So I'm here because I want to start practicing this lucid dreaming stuff as consciously as is possible when you're dreaming - and avoid waking up when I do realise! I'll start reading the tutorials and whatnot but any personal guidance would be great....

So hello everybody! Thanks for having me

      Hi welcome to Dream Views

Thts interesting about how ur dreams with water link u to things. Some advice when u realize ur dreaming try to relax and calm down so u dont wake up so fast. And look at ur hands or use verbal commands like " increase lucidity" to help u stay lucid. I know it sounds stupid but it really helps

      Hey RastaWookie, welcome to DV!!!

Well, it looks like you have found a dreamsign--water! In essence, dreamsigns are something that appear frequently in your dreams, for example mine would be my old junior high and DV (obviously I spend way too much time on here, lol). So, if you use dreamsigns with reality checks (maybe like trying to breathe while holding your nose everytime you see water [although you should probably narrow it down to something more specific, like pools or an ocean or something for example ])...

Also, if you've recognized you're dreaming, then you have already, been lucid, probably low level lucidity though (not very realistic).

Oh, and if you want a more personal lucid training experience, then ya might want to look into DV's adoption program. Basically, after staying here for two weeks, you can ask a member if they'll "adopt" you, to kind of be a personal LDing coach.
      Look, a distraction!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys (even if you didn't have a big speech!)

And also thanks for the tips.

I think I'll be joining the adoption program....need to have a look around a bit first (and wait until my probation is up!)

Water as a dream sign for me - well, it does feature in some of my earliest dream memories...that much is true. As for whether it's just a pool, or the ocean....I think it's my dream ocean, no sand, nice flat bottom (not paved like a pool though)...with oceany blue wavy water and no creepy water animals or seaweed to freak me out. The only time there was sand in my ocean was when I jumped in to get away from a boring conversation.....there was sand on the beach, and a bit of a sand-cliff (like how the water erodes the beaach at King Tide), but when I jumped in it was so deep I didn't touch the bottom even after the water covered my head. I remembered more about this one actually, I was talking to someone from work about work, but then I realised I was dreaming and that it was a boring topic to be talking about in the dream, so I kind of said so and apologised to the person and then jumped in the ocean, away to my next dream.

Does my dream journal have to be chronological or is it okay to add other dreams from the past that I've remembered?
