      Sleep paralysis.

Your body is always paralyzed during REM sleep (the stage you dream in). It's possible that you wake up but your body stays paralyzed - your mind wakes up but your body continues to sleep. It can be a frightening experience as you're only able to breath and move your eyes. However, it usually goes over after a few moments.

Some kind of sleep paralysis is also experienced when consciously drifting into sleep (WILD, wake initiated lucid dream).

      I hope this helped.
Don't think about those damn kangaroos.

Thank you very much. (You'd think I could have figured that out by myself, but what do you know )
