      Hello!

Hello! I actually joined dream views a couple of years ago, yet just until now I have signed in, planning to come here regularly to master the art of lucid dreaming.

Mostly I want to use lucid dreaming as a way to heal internally. After having suffered both psychological and physical trauma in the latter years.

I'm 24 years old, and sadly got sick of the kidneys some years ago with no rational explanation (no cause was found) I do connect this event of life with the death of my grand father (which happened to have died 2 months before I got sick).

Ever since, I have some recurrent dreams both with my grand father as also with sickness itself. I would like to develop lucid capacities as a way to know more of my subconscious. Also, I want to become a writer, and what a better inspiration than the core of my mind?

I would appreciate advice on how to get started over here, what kind of techniques to employ. I have had relative success before in the past keeping a sheet of paper along a pen on my bedroom table. My plan is usually to write whatever I remember from my dreams as soon as I wake up. After some days of doing this practice, I get more conscious when I'm dreaming and so can manipulate the dream a bit. Like for example, being able to fly wherever I want inside the dream.

      What techniques do you use?

Hey Tealgranate, welcome to DreamViews! Glad to hear you've decided to become more active

Sorry to hear about your grandfather and that you got sick

Lucid dreaming is great for writers, not only does it provide inspiration but you can also use it to enter the world you're writing about and meet your own characters. I think that's really cool.

If you want, check out the DreamViews Chat/IRC, it's a great place to chat and you can also ask questions about lucid dreaming.

Dream journals are great help with building recall, so keep that up. When you wake up though, try to lay there for a moment and rewind the whole dream in your head, that really helps with recall. Sometimes I'll only remember a fragment or nothing but when I just lay there thinking about the dream, it all starts coming back to me.

You'll want to start doing reality checks, this helps with building awareness, which will lead to lucidity. Question whether you're dreaming through out the day, take a moment to observe your surroundings and then do a reality check or two. For example, looking at your hands or plugging your nose and seeing if you can still breath through it.

      Induction Methods and Techniques

The techniques/methods I use are DILD, MILD, WILD, DEILD, WBTB, ADA/SAT, etc. For beginners we usually recommend starting with DILD but different people find different techniques and methods easier.

If you need any help just let me know, I'll see you around ^_^

Welcome (or I guess, welcome back) to the forum!

Sorry for your loss. Lucid dreaming is a great way to come to terms with the loss of a loved one. I've heard several stories of dreamers spending time with their deceased, giving them another chance to talk and make things right.

Mismagius pretty much covered it. Definitely start with journaling and reality checks. As for techniques to start with, definitely try DILD and MILD, but experiment with others and find which one works best for you.

Also, a book inspired by your dreams sounds pretty cool. Definitely keep us posted!
