      Greetings!

Hello, fellow DV users. My name is Ash and I'm fairly new to this whole lucid dreaming thing and have been interested in trying it recently. I haven't bothered trying out other techniques rather than the Finger Induced Lucid Dream (FILD) or Hargart's Technique.

      Few questions:

They say when you're about to fall asleep whilst doing the FILD, you'll go through a transition or tingling sensation in your body. After that you're supposed to do a RC eg. nose pinch.
Do I have to actually do it or do I have to imagine/visualize doing it? This is what I don't understand about Lucid Dreaming. Do you have to imagine doing everything to control the dream or can you physically wake up and do whatever (flying w.e)? Can you open your eyes?

      That's all, thanks!

EDIT: I'm sure there are threads that explain all of my questions in detail but HONESTLY, I'm too lazy at this point of time. It's 3:25 a.m. and I can't sleep :-/

      Welcome to DV's, Ash!

I hope you'll find time to browse the forums for both answers to our questions as well as for methods of gaining lucidity that range beyond FILD.

Regarding your questions, here are a few quick answers, though I'm sure you will get much more thorough information as you spend time here at DV's:

They say when you're about to fall asleep whilst doing the FILD, you'll go through a transition or tingling sensation in your body. After that you're supposed to do a RC eg. nose pinch. Do I have to actually do it or do I have to imagine/visualize doing it?
The answer here is yes, I think: You have to actually do your RC, but if all goes well you will be doing it with your dream body while your physical body sleeps away without moving at all. So in a sense you will actually be doing your RC, but it will be in the context of a dream, so in another sense you will be visualizing the RC as dream imagery, and won't "actually" be doing it at all. When it comes time to do the RC, it will be far simpler than all this sounds -- just do the RC, and if it fails (i.e., you pinch your nose but continue breathing easily), then you will indeed be dreaming (thus, imagining) your new "dream" reality.

This is what I don't understand about Lucid Dreaming. Do you have to imagine doing everything to control the dream or can you physically wake up and do whatever (flying w.e)?
The answer here, again, is a simple "Yes."

When lucid you can do whatever you want to do, which can run from imagining nothing at all and simply following the flow of the dream while fully aware you are dreaming all the way up to having full control of all aspects of your dream, limited only by your own imagination. So yes, you can imagine doing everything, yes, you can "wake up" -- though not physically! -- and do whatever, and yes, you can do nothing at all, except enjoy the thrill of being in your dream world fully aware that you are dreaming, and that that world is all yours.

      Can you open your eyes?
Well, it's never a good idea to open your physical body's eyes while you're asleep, because then you might wake up! But, since you don't actually have any eyes while dreaming (only perception), you can do whatever you'd like to do with your dream body's eyes -- even ignore them altogether.

I hope you find what you need here on the forums, and good luck in your journey...

      Welcome ash!

When you realize that to you are dreaming in a dream, it is like realizing right now that you are in a dream. You can not only have the sensations of waking, but sensations that you never even dreamed of having!

If you have any questions, let me know and I can answer them.
