It sounds like you're having an onset of insomnia after these WILD-type methods? I had a similar problem using SSILD (kind of an enhanced WBTB) and it took me a long time to figure out how to fix.
The insomnia comes from waking yourself up too much during the technique. There's a sweet spot where you want to hit, overshoot and you'll lie awake for ages, undershoot and you won't have a noticeable increase in awareness.

When doing a WBTB you'll want to be awake for 'just the right' amount of time, and this can vary depending on the night. Sometimes it'll be 3 minutes, maybe it'll be 7 minutes, only you can tell based off your own intuition during the moment.

A key thing in these techniques is to trial them for at least a month each on their own to truly know whether or not it will work for you.
