      Newbie who likes to fly

      Hello -
I'm new here and wanted to say hello and share this great dream I had last night. This was my second LD, although I've had pretty intense dreams all my life (as I kid I had a recurring dream of flying on a blanket - always a favourite).

My first LD was a month ago and pretty simple -- was dreaming that I had no shoes on, I was embaressed. Then I realized I was dreaming and decided to change the dream such that I was wearing shoes. In the morning I told my friend about it and he told me about Lucid Dreaming. Sounded pretty cool so made a mental note to try again sometime.

This morning I woke up early to say goodbye to my partner for the day. Went back to bed and fell back to sleep. Dreamed he came back to give me something. I got out of bed and sat on the front porch looking for him. At this point I realized I was dreaming, so I decided to try flying. At first I couldnt' get off the ground, but after trying harder I was off. As I flew around I thought maybe I could dream about a better world - one where we'd successfully tackled climate change (I work in this area and it can get pretty depressing). I decided to go look at glaciers, then I looked closer at the towns below and noticed that all the houses had solar panels. I tried to imagine a newspaper with a headline like "Climate No Longer Changing" -- couldn't quite get that to work. Then I woke up.

I was so elated, feeling happy and positive. Wondering do others dream like this? What would it be like if everyone could have this dream? Could it be another force for positive change? How 'out there' is this?

Oh, pretty "out there". People are stupid, y'know; they won't change until they're forced to...

Still, one more person dreaming of good things is one more step in the right direction. Consider yourself a part of the solution. And that's a good thing.

I generally haven't had a lot of dreams of "positive futures" for the world in general; but positive changes in myself are common. What's weird is that my idealistic self, at age 22, is more focused on changing the world... I suppose my brain is trying to tell me, "Change yourself first, and worry about the world later!"

That's a good idea to try, by the way. If I think of it when I next have a LD, I'll try to look at possible futures. With my pessimistic tendencies, I'm likely to see the aftereffects of a nuclear war, but, y'know.

      Oh, and, welcome!

That's a great dream. I've had a few flying dreams, but have never been lucid in one. I've always found them pretty uplifting, even the other aspects of the dream are less positive.

The news headline was a nice attempt.. would that you could make it happen in this world!

Ahh, Flying. I used to have so many flying dreams as a kid and they were always my favorite kind of dream. They always feel so real, like you are really flying. That feeling that you get in the dream seems like exactly how it would feel if you could really do it.

I haven't flown much in my dreams lately at all, but when I have better control over my dreams it's something that I know I will do quite often. You always wake up the next morning so...satisfied. It's a great feeling.

I love flying so much that I came up with a way to (apparently) float! Of course it's an illusion, but the closest I've come to really doing it..

You seem to be suggesting that what you chose to dream about can be bad ?

I'm sorry, but my dreams are personnal, and if I want to dream of a sheep playing catch with me in my backyard as I throw 10 pencils at once and it uses its fur to catch it, that's my own choice.

Just because I don't dream of saving african kids of a fire in South Africa makes me a bad guy ? That's as ironic as the Greenpeace guys using gas-powered boats to watch the progress of some sort of nuclear place (Which they did not long ago).

I may have overreacted, but you seemed to imply he was "good" because he chose of dreaming of world's future.

Oh, honestly--don't be so annoyed. I doubt it was meant as an insult.

It's not like she's saying anyone who doesn't have dreams of a wonderful future is some sort of an evil person. She just feels like the world would be better if the idea of a better future could become real to other people--like it would be if they dreamed of it.
