      Truly a lucid dream?

I can't find this question raised anywhere else so I'm assuming it's a stupid question but perhaps someone has some answers to this.

I had a fairly brief lucid dream last night, during which I realised I was dreaming and was certain that I was in control of my actions and the dream. However, a question occured to me today; How can I be sure that I was not simply dreaming I was having a lucid dream? I have been reading about lucid dreams so it's possible that it is something I would dream about, so how can I be sure that I was actually in control of my dream and not just dreaming that I was.

Maybe this is just a bit naive and stupid, if so feel free to tell me so!

Hey there, and welcome to the forum!

I wish I had a dollar for every time someone has asked that question. I have to admit that I still don't really understand the question. If you were dreaming, and you realized you were dreaming, then you were lucid (dream control is another issue). I mean, it was a dream, so of course you were dreaming about being lucid -- and you were lucid!

Now, it's certainly possible to dream about lucidity in general without realizing that you are dreaming. But if you become aware of the fact that you are dreaming during the dream, then you are lucid -- I can't see any way around it.

At least that's my take on it.

Hmm I always think the same thing. You could dream that you were convincing yourself it was just a dream, but thinking that it was real somewhere in the back of your head, somewhere, I guess. Maybe a reverse example would be trying to convince yourself that you were dreaming while conscious. No matter how much you convince yourself, you'll still know you're wide awake. I think that's how but I dunno. I felt the same way the other night when I had my first Couldnt work out if i was actually lucid or just 'dreamt it up'

Yup ive questioned this also, usually during low lucidity dreams. After waking from low lucidity dreams and looking back on your actons its quite easy to believe you wern't lucid because you tend to make decisions which you wouldnt in real life. During lower lucidity dreams i have a habit of falling in and out of non lucid dreaming also, i wake with vague and broken memories of the dream which adds more doubt for me. Infact im pretty sure ive actually dreamed of being lucid a few times.

The proof for me comes from medium - high lucidity dreams, one of those where your completely "yourself" in the dream. In these ive often stood still in the dream and thought to myself "im actually laying in bed right now, and everything around me is simply being created by my mind". Its these dreams where you know you have complete freewill and control over your actions, where you have a sound knowledge of your surroundings and current situation that provides proof.

And even if you are unconciously dreaming that you have freewill, what difference does it really matter to the dream? The same can be argued about real life, how do you know you have freewill and control over your actions right now? Is it not possible that you just think you have? If you can prove to me beyond doubt that you have freewill in real life then I'll likely use the same argument to prove i do in dreams .

      Good luck,

for what RooJ said, I believe if you fele you have full mental facilities in you dreams, you must act as morral as you woudl in real life. Lucid Dreams are the ultimate charecter tests, If you can be a good perosn in them, you can be anywhere
