Hey guys, I'm new, just need some information

Hey guys, new to the board and to lucid dreaming. I had recently heard about lucid dreaming from a friend who mentioned something about it and I became really interested in it. I have realized that I must have expierienced this sleep paralysis thing before. It has happened many times before right before i fall asleep or when I wake up. I can't move and feel a tingling sensation, and I struggle to break out of it since it's kind of a weird feeling and didnt know anything about lucid dreaming. I seem to sometimes actually be able to wake myselft up from a dream, but I cant really explain the feeling and I dont think i was aware I was dreaming, at least I don't remember.... I'm still hesitant to try it and I'm skeptical, it just seems too unbelieveable to be able to control your dreams. but so many of you seem to have had succes with it. I was wondering if you guys initially had these feelings and didn't believe it, and what some of your techniques are for starting to learn lucid dreaming. Any comments would be great. thanks guys.

well it might seem unbelviable but i mean there ur dreams right? u can help ur recall by keeping a dream journal and u can do some reality checks during the day and maybe if u do one in a dream you become lucid some reailty checks are look at a seris of words twice because in dreams words change and my favorite trying to stick the tongue though the roof of ur mouth welcome to dream views

Growing up, I always had dreams that I could controll or at least knew i was dreaming, so belief was never an issue for me. It doesnt sound that wierd if you think about it though. There are some people who can train thier minds not to feel pain, or even mroe simply learn to play an instrument. Our minds are powerful tools, and we can use them to our advatage. Dreams are the ultimate subcounis play groudn hwere we can become aware and do what ever we want .

thanks guys, i guess it just seems really strange to control my dreams cause every time i fall asleep its not like I remember it or anything, I don't know the point when i fall asleep which is why i think WILDs seem harder to obtain, than just the realization of dreaming within a dream. how do your lucid dreams usually occur?

My lucid dreams usually occur without any effort on my part. Something will happen in a dream and then i realise i'm dreaming!
It's been a long time since i had a lucid dream, but i don't worry too much about it.

      Hi Alex,
I'm a beginner in LD, thus I cannot give many experienced hints. Anyway, the first step towards LD is to start a dream journal, trying to write down any dream that you have in every possible detail. The mere fact to keep a DJ would increase your dream recall.

Don't worry about controlling dreams: LD is about lucidity and awareness; control is a consequence. Morevoer a not necessary consequence: in my few LD experiences I couldnt' move a finger... I guess it was linked to sleep paralysis.

Dreamsigns and reality checks are the best way to get into LD. In my quite limited cases, lucidity popped up just spontaneously, probably triggered by some strange feeling of not being able to move.

I'm a very skeptical person myself. I'm a strict materialist atheist. And I can tell you, lucid dreaming is definitely a real phenomenon. It's been backed up with scientific experiments in which lucid dreamers in sleep laboratories are able to communicate with the outside world via eye movements (everything else is paralyzed during sleep). And of course, I've had them myself. Think about it. Dreams are nothing but complex hallucinations. In them, you are not constrained by the normal laws of physics or society. You are truly free to do anything you want, once you realize that everything is in your head. Dreams, even non-lucid ones, are largely constructed by your expectations of what is going to happen. Have you ever had the experience during a dream where you expect something specific to happen and it happens exactly the way you thought it would? Once you train yourself to harness that, you can control your expectations and by extension control the entire world around you.

I never was really skeptical about lucid dreams myself, because I had already had a few before I ever started reading about them. I know it seems like the kind of thing that you'd expect only New Agers and telepathy enthusiasts to believe in, but take it from this very satisfied skeptic mind that this is no figment of our imaginations.

The dream is still in my head

I wish that it might come to pass
Not fade like all my dreams” —Rush
