"Dreams are as portals. Flat visions of misty places. But I can write dreams!" - Myst Uru
I would say "false awakening". They can seem awfully real, especially if the ensuing dream is short, like yours was. If you'd really raised your head, it would surely have woken you up (unless you're prone to sleepwalking). |

Die Gedanken Sind Frei

I had a similar experience last night. In my dream I was seeing a particular shape which I later realised was a shadow being cast on the wall in my room. I actually came to while still paralyzed, I had my eyes open and was able to see around the room (not move), while still experiencing elements of the dream. Although knowing the exact position I was sleeping in, I felt like I was moving my dream arms, but naturally I couldn't see them as they were physically by my sides and this was even visible to me. My paralysis eventually faded and I became fully awake. The shadow on the wall was still there. |
