      Stepping out of the Shadows

      Hello all

I am a new member, but I must admit that I've been lurking here for about a year. I finally decided to register and participate instead of just watching. Kind of a new thing I'm trying in life.

I've been having lucid dreams since I was very young, but I stopped having them frequently when I was in highschool. I had no idea I could really control anything, I just knew it was a dream. Not that I really cared, oddly, which is still a problem for me. When I go lucid, I never remember to stabilize or try anything new. I'm happy with what I was doing before I realized it was a dream(usually flying), and I continue to do the same thing and I lose lucidity, or I stay lucid but can't remember the dream. I really love dreaming, not just lucids. I finally started writing in my DJ regularly, and my recall has improved, but I'm in a bit of a lucid rut lately. I don't really want complete concious control over my dreams, I'd like to leave room for my subconcious and higher self to express... myself I guess.

Well, I'm glad I registered and said Hi. I feel like I know too much about your dreams for you to know nothing about mine.

      Hey there everybody!

I'm also new here to the forums. I've been reading through them for about a month and have been practicing some of the techniques i've read about. I've really learned a lot so far and enjoy reading about other people's experiences.

AdAstra- Why would you NOT want to be fully lucid in your dreams?

It's not that I don't want to be fully lucid, I just don't want total control. I like analyzing my dreams and learning more about myself. I see dreaming as more of a spiritual and learning experience, not just a chance to be god. I don't want to get too caught up in controlling everything. Sometimes it's fun to be in semi lucid state. I feel I can actually control things and myself better when I only suspect I'm dreaming, or don't think it's that big of a deal that I'm dreaming. I learn more about myself because when my Subconcious/Higher Self is still in control of most of my dream. Plus, I don't wake up tired, which is a problem for me if I get too crazy or physically active in my dreams, lucid or otherwise.

Hmm, no real welcomes Should have stuck with the Hi! I'm new here! title

I can understand that, but I dont plan on making EVERY dream I have lucid. so I can have some good fun but still learn from what my subconcsious is telling me. Even when I'm lucid I want my subconcsious to take on some roll of my dream. The sub-con is what makes dreaming awesome. I can wake up every morning with a story to tell and some new insight on myself. Must be nice to know that you have enough controll to not be in TOTAL control though, huh?

I think people figured you'd been here for a year already so you already know what DV's all about. but just for the heck of it ITS A PARTY!!!!!!!!!!

AdAstra, welcome to DV. What took you so long to come on in! Well, your here now. You should strive for full Lucidity because its very hard to have lucid's every night. Your mind will make sure all that subconscious junk will get through to you

I don't know what took me so long. I guess I didn't think I had anything productive to add, but I've since changed my view

As far as not having anything productive to add- I feel the same. I find myself reading everybody elses thoughts and opinions and never write much. But I guess there is always something to add. Anyways, I agree with the previous posts. You won't be able to acheive absolute lucidity every night. So don't worry about your sub conscience not having its say! It will have plenty of opportunity to provide you with insights of yourself. I think its a good idea to pracitce your favored techniques to acheive lucidity, that way when you want to be lucid you can at least attempt to do it with reasonable confidence! Cheers and happy dreaming!

      welcome

i understand why you wouldn't want to 'control' your dreams, or play god. however, its seems to me that you will never attain full and total lucidity (to observe the dreamscape created by your higher self) unless you experiment a little with other states while dreaming additionally.

i mean, you mention in lucid dreams you usually fly, or continue what you were doing, and lose lucidity. Perhaps you should ask yourself why it is you usually fly when you become lucid? do you think it stems from your higher self, or merely from your 'normal' subconscious, which associates that with lucid dreaming, or at least a desireable activity to be involved with while lucid?

Maybe if you 'took control' of dreams when you become lucid, and refrain from doing the same old things, your higher self will have greater opportunity to show and teach you about yourself.

i mean, stabilizing your dream is 'taking control' in a sense, but i think only in a way that contributes to allowing your subconscious to manifest. once it is stable, you need not alter or change things. maybe look at stabilizing your dream, and not just allowing your 'everyday subconscious' to control the flow. then, once you are fully lucid, and not preoccupied with flying, or other activities which usually fill your lucid dreams, your 'transcendental subconscious' will have the arena its always needed to fully manifest itself. your full attention...

*shrugs* good luck with whatever you choose to do.
