      Enigma13

Hello, I'm Enigma13. I literally just heard about Lucid Dreaming yesterday, but was able to attain some lucidity last night. As is the story with most noobs(or so I hear) I became too excited and woke myself up. This is going to be an interesting journey. I just have a few questions. 1. Is Lucid Dreaming really so life-like? 2. At some point will I be able to say, summon a character from a favorite show of mine? and 3. Is sleep paralysis really so bad?

One more question. How long do Lucid Dreams usually last?

      Re: Enigma13

      1. Is Lucid Dreaming really so life-like?
Sometimes it can seem more real than real life. It all just depends on how lucid you are, but often you can see better, hear better, and feel more alive. Sometimes LDs just feel like a dream, though. It just depends.

      2. At some point will I be able to say, summon a character from a favorite show of mine?
Yes. Just keep practicing whenever you become lucid. The key is just knowing that whatever you want to happen will happen! Confidence is key.

      3. Is sleep paralysis really so bad?
Well, I haven't experienced it personally, but I've heard mixed reviews. It is a good way to go into an LD, since you're so close to being asleep. I think it would just depend on your personal experience.

      4. How long do LDs last?
Well, again, it depends. (I'm saying that a lot) Basically from a half a second to what may seem like months or (some have claimed) years. Usually LDs come right before you're about to wake up, but that's also why we try to train ourselves to recognize the dream world earlier so that our LDs will last longer.

I hope this was helpful. Let us know if you need anything else

Well, you won't have to work very hard to be as good as me. Though I've acquired knowledge, I'm still not very good at actually having LDs.

Nonetheless. I'm very determined and I'm willing to take the practice as long as I need to. I must experience this at least once. Chances are I'll get hooked though. I'm probably looking foreward to Transforming most.

      1. Is Lucid Dreaming really so life-like?[/b]
Lucid Dreaming seems more life like than real life in many cases. The reason for this is because everything around you is essentially you. Your body is the same as the sky or the wind, tree, fence. Everything is you so there is this intimate relationship with the world your in.
      2. At some point will I be able to say, summon a character from a favorite show of mine?[/b]
Yea! That's one of the funnest things to do in a Lucid Dream. I have traveled on adventures with my favorite TV show characters and favorite heroes in books.

      3. Is sleep paralysis really so bad?[/b]
Ive had it only once, and I enjoyed it. Some people fear it, but its better to have than to not have because you can get into LDs much easier.
      4. How long do LDs last?[/b]
There is no set time limit, but they can potentially last as long as your REM cycles. That would mean 10 minutes to 100 minutes in increasing cycles as the night goes on. HOWEVER, Most LDs last from 1/3 of a second to 45 minutes if your lucky. There are Alsop different degrees of Lucidity. Some can be very clear, while others you know you dreaming but still don't realize you may change things.

the basic thing about Wilds are that you never loose consciousness from being awake to being asleep. You try to keep your brain on while your body shuts down and you will enter into your dream world.

Sorry, yet another n00bish question. Once you gain lucidity over a dream does it slowdown because when I think of dreams I think of these fleeting images and flashing scenes.

The only reason you think of dreams like that si because you are remembering dream fragments. There are so much more to dreams once you get good at remembering them. They seem longer and have story lines.

So would you say LDs progress in 'normal time'. By that I mean in the pace that the real world runs. Or is it unexplainable?

Experiments have shown that (at least some) dreams occur in real-time. They got the dreamers to communicate with waking observers via eye movement signals. Not sure of the details, just read it on Wikipedia a few days ago (heard about similar experiments before, here and there...).

Some dreams may follow "real time" but the majority do not. Have you ever noticed that sometimes you may just doze off and have a super long dream, but look at the clock and see that only a few mintures has passed? My theory is that since the mind is not having to take in and process external stimuli, it is capable of working at a faster speed than when we are awake.

I once had a dream what felt like a week but when I woke up I found it was only 5 minutes long. Does anyone know how to make this happen to prolong dreams?

by the way, that 5 minute=1week dream was one of the worst dreams ever. I got up for school and had the worst school week of my life, then woke up properly to find I hadn't even been to school yet.

So I take it you weren't Lucid. If you were it would quickly become the best dream ever, 1 week long too .

Yeah, it's one of the reasons I looked into LD's, so far I seem to have my longest and most vivid dreams by going back to sleep just after waking up on a morning. My most vivid LD happened through this.

I used to fear going back to sleep on a morning in case of long borring, dreams but now I hope for them more than anything.

I wish I could go back to sleep, but for some reason I've always been an early riser. I bet if I stayed up later I'd sleep in more. If I used an Alarm clock would that screw up my chances of getting a Lucid dream when I go back to sleep?

I was using an alarm clock when I had that week long dream. I can't imagine how long the dream would have lasted if my mam hadn't draged me out of bed. It was 7:00 in the morning when it happened if she hadn't woke me up at 7:05 I would have slept till 10:00.

I don't use an alarm clock anymore I always wake up at around 7:00 except on weekends.

I use an alarm clock, just in case my own internal clock runs out of batteries I've found that I have some of my most vivid dreams between snoozes. I know hitting snooze isn't good for me, but I limit myself to twice before getting up. It's amazing how long you can dream in the span of 9 minutes.

There's more info around here about time manipulation in dreams. I haven't experimented with it personally, but I'm sure there are people around here who could help you out with that.

Thanks, I'l ask around. I wonder what the maximum limit for the length of a dream is?

Well being who I am, I plan to beat that some how. Maybe a coma straight after waking up so I go straight into REM. I've heard that certain soundwaves effect dreams, I wonder if this would help too?
