Although ive found lucid dream memory storage to be better then normal dream memory its still far from normal everyday waking memory. Its actually very frustrating sometimes... your aware and taking everything in in the lucid dream yet it seems to enter your long term memory fragmented sometimes. The more aware i am and the 'higher' the lucidity the easier it seems to be to remember, to the point where its as easy as a normal waking state.
Even if the memory of the LD is fragmented the peices are there and stored in memory, it just takes you to notice them and put them back together.
So yeah, i guess the answer is something to do with how dreams are stored in memory (even lucid dreams). Id imagine its a defence mechanism to stop people confusing dream memory with waking memory. It would be bad for instance if you were to dream you could fly by jumping off buildings and got that confused with reality. Maybe because of this dreams are stored in a different part of memory or stored in a different manner that makes retrieval harder. It could also be that its just harder to store memories when not as concious, so the more aware and concious you are, the more chance you have of remembering.
