Well, I assume you're talking about recalling your dreams.
Especially with new LDers, the main thing is that once you wake up, don't move. Just lay there in bed and try to remember something, anything, be it a color, a character, a word, etc. Once you remember something, usually that will trigger something else, and so forth. Just lay there until you have recalled as much as you can, and then reach for your journal.
If you manage to record a dream, I've found that it helps to read it before you go to bed again. It can strengthen your resolve to recall your dreams and may help you find dream signs to help you become lucid. Just relax. I've found that stress is usually counter-productive when it comes to dream recall, so don't worry. You'll get it.
